RV mentioned, at the signing day presentation, that the student governments of UNT and UTSA were working on creating a trophy to play for each year, in order to cement a rivalry between the two schools. Apparently the leading candidate is the Sombrero Trophy. I don't know if this has been mentioned or for that matter if anyone cares. I am all in favor of a rivalry but not so much a trophy shaped like a Sombrero. I have no idea if they are seeking any input from other sources.

The idea of a sombrero just seems like "hey, tried to come up with an idea". I guess I'd be willing to make some sort of conciliatory gesture in exchange for them never bringing that "marching band" to Denton again. Yes, I'm serious.

Lets try to have a little bit of a higher standard in the people we choose to be our rivals, shall we?

And like I said in another thread, if UTSA is hell bent on having a trophy for this game, lets make it a mounted porta-pottie and then just tell them to keep it, win or lose. They deserve it, after all.

I would say use a symbol of texas.... yellow rose, bluebonnet, the great pecan tree or nut, dutch oven, the Bass, red grapefruit, the guitar, the jalepeno, the cactus, blue topaz, chili con carne, etc.

It should be a nest. We both have bird mascots. Should be some bronze/copper/steel/ whatever nest.

Nothing embodies North Texas like a Sombrero! This kind of trophy would not be one-sided at all! Of course, as a few here have pointed out, the actual games have been pretty one-sided.

Well, see, what happened was that we had a trophy in the works with Tulsa, but when we joined C-USA, that deal went away and we were stuck looking for another trophy. So, this Riverwalk Trophy was the best we could do under the circumstances... It was unavoidable.

      These players had already chosen to get a free education at a given school when they first committed and they should have factored their degree options/quality into that decision. Now, if after playing for a while, an offer to a BETTER UNIVERSITY (not FB team) for their career is now being offered, then transferring is a valid choice. However, I doubt that is much of a decision factor in the majority of transfers.       He’s a Kyler Murray starter kit and you would think we’d get the most out of him while we have him, which is at QB. But you and I know we can never underestimate North Texas’ ability to F things up. I haven't witnessed overall team speed on a HS team like like I saw on the NC team yesterday since the 1983 Daingerfield Tigers. Westlake beat North Shore twice this year, the second time badly in the semi’s and NC was making it look like child’s play against them yesterday. A very impressive, dominant season by them for sure.
