This really isn't a gift to the AD, its advertising dollars being spent for advertising.

Exactly the opposite. This is a gift that he gets to run through his company as advertising dollars.

Well, the guy ain't stupid. He's gonna want some return on investment, and that means somebody's got to be there to see his signs.

Sorry for the Debbie-Downer here, but upon further review there's no since getting our hopes up as I was just reminded that he's actually been here and in charge, or is that "overseeing" the BOR since 2009. He's been perfectly fine with a lot of decisions and inept performance for 6 years now that would otherwise have gotten you and I fired long ago for.

So, there you go.

Oh come on man. That's just an extremely negative spin on a generous gift. Sure he will get something in return but there are plenty of other places he could have purchased advertising with a larger yield. This gift is directly benefiting UNT Athletics and his alma mater.

not being negative just stating a fact. A gift would be a donation with nothing in return.

Or, maybe a couple of years ago, a committee was formed, for the purpose of raising money for a dedicated basketball practice facility, and a center hung scoreboard at the pit, and new signage in front of the scorers table. Some people wrote some checks, some said they would give x for y, and whala, the final piece of the puzzle is complete.

Nah, that cant be it.

Why is it a question left for people to guesstimate over? Vito's source only communicate in Klingon or something?

So are you trying to tell me that the AD is not responsible for the advertising sales in Apogee, on the exterior of Fouts, in the Super Pit and over in Mean Green village? Wow, criticize where you all see fit, but don't start making stuff up to complain about.

i suspect he can give more money by making it a business expense than from just a personal donation. As for return on his ad dollars, there are a lot of people on this forum who could give him far more bang for the buck than $1,000,000 in Super Pit advertising. Thus, it is really a gift.

The super pit doesn't belong to the athletic department. They have to schedule using it like anyone else on campus. I was reminded of this by this e-mail that I received on the 12th.

Dear Bill,

We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately, our final home women’s basketball game against UTSA on Saturday, March 7, has been moved to Kitty Magee Arena on the campus of Texas Women’s University (TWU).

Ideally we would never play any of our home basketball games away from the Super Pit or put our student athletes at a disadvantage by playing a home game off campus but we have no choice. The Super Pit is not managed by athletics and we are subject to the same scheduling philosophies and practices that any other campus organization has when trying to schedule the facility. Playing the game at TWU was the best alternative for our student-athletes and fan base while working within the framework of Conference USA schedule. We are grateful to TWU for accommodating our needs and allowing us to use their arena. This is an added benefit to having a great relationship with another of Denton’s hometown teams.

BTW, my wife, a TWU grad, remembers Kitty Magee.

I felt good until I read this...now, I'm depressed. Wherever the money is spent, it is 1 million more than we had six months ago. Makes me rethink my decision to give 2 million in 2015...I cannot withstand the criticism from this board for such actions.
