If Miami offers he's gone. Only saving grace would be his family. He has 2 girls that are pretty young and no one really wants to raise kids in Miami.

With the salary that he would hypothetically be getting if he is offered and accepts the job, it's not like he'd be raising them in Liberty City. He knows South Florida and the Miami area well enough to make a good decision on where to raise his family, and there are plenty of options. Just like with any major city and its suburbs.

Glad to have coach Patrick still in place. His recruiting efforts seemed critical with the 2015 class.

1. I'm excited to see how he develops the line this season - both newcomers and vets alike

2. We don't have to deal with the difficult situation where a coach spends months recruiting his guys only for them to sign and watch their coach leave. The "family" atmosphere so frequently referenced by our recruits appears as if it will remain in tack this off-season.

I watched the episode of Beyond the Green that highlighted Coach Patrick. It was clear that his players love playing for him and have immense respect for him. I think his value to the staff and to the program is key to our success. I don't know how hut we need to lock him up for as long as possible, maybe groom him as Mac's successor.

I'm not going to get greedy with KP, and expect he'll be here for a long time. But the longer we keep him the, the longer this program will reap the benefits from his d-line recruiting. Tauaalo and Tillman Johnson in 2014, plus Harrison, Wegmann, Young, and Howard in 2015, plus Ozougwo and the other studs I'm sure he'll help us get in 2016 will eventually add up to solid depth at one of the most important units on the team.

Not only is d-line very important, but those players usually take a bit of time to develop because of the physicality and size required. Even if KP isn't here 2, 3 or more years from now, his successor will thank him greatly for the pieces he gave him to work with. And if he's still here then even better.

According to the fan poll on the Canes' SB Nation site, fans overwhelmingly seemed to want Patrick...

Kevin Patrick - 74%

Kareem Brown - 20%

Randy Melvin - 6%

I was actually a bit surprised he wasn't elevated to DC when Skladany left but am incredibly pleased with the defensive staff in place right now.
