Definitely think Canales is on the hot seat and if he's the QB guy then something needs to be looked at. The QB issue at UNT has been bad since... well, forever. And a good chunk of that has happened on Canales' watch. Apart from Thompson (who I think did what he did in spite of Canales, not because) who else has really panned out? No one. Hence why Canales had to go this off season and why I won't be surprised to see a similar announcement to that of Skladany prior to the UTEP game at the latest.

If this season goes south quickly - and so far everything points in that direction - I can see Mac wanting out and negotiating his own buy out so he can go somewhere else and/or retire.

We know Dillman is going to be a TE. Just seems with so much recruiting coverage someone would ask Mac WHY. At one time Dillman was the top QB prospect in the country, I understand and am excited about him as a TE, but WHAT CHANGED is an important part of his story.

It's no mystery dude.

Dillman was set to be the starting QB at Guyer until a few things happened.

1. Shawn Robinson moved into the district and beat him out in spring ball for the starting spot. Dillman was going to be the #2.

2. UIL then ruled him ineligible for Varsity play because they felt his move from California to Guyer looked to much like a "moving just to play football" move.

3. He played his senior season on JV, playing with and against players well under his skill level.

So Dillman never got to have a varsity season in 6A Texas high school football. Never got to throw to elite receivers like Alex Honey, never had to face off against elite defenses like the Southlake boys who knocked Guyer out of the playoffs or those guys from Allen who destroyed Guyer in the first game of the season at Apogee. He also never even got a chance to play tight end at the 6A varsity level.

His chance to develop further during his senior season by playing against high skill level opponents and playing with teammates who could help him develop never happened. Yes John Walsh is the head coach at Guyer and has developed some really good QBs from there but it's not like he and the rest of the coaching staff were going to work constantly with Dillman to help improve his recruiting prospects. They had Robsinson, who is the future of his program for the next few years and very young with a lot of growing up and maturing to do, to work with and his backup on Varsity to worry about.

He hadn't been a top level QB recruit since nearly a year ago. As soon as Guyer announced that Robinson was going to be the started, Dillman's stocked dropped. Then in August, when the UIL ruled him ineligible for Varsity play, his stock plummeted.

So there is no Dillman mystery. He's a great athlete with good football skill who got screwed over by the UIL and got stuck playing JV his senior year and never go to blossom as a QB in Texas. No D1 school would take a chance recruiting him at QB having missed out on that development time.

This.

This guy gets it.

Although its impossible to know whether the unimaginative play calling was all Canales or Mac being afraid of the forward pass.

If y'all noticed, Babe even took a dig at Mac for not throwing the ball during the staticast.

Based on memory, I thought Canales received a 1 year extension that runs out after 2015 season. Any one confirm/deny?

he got a 2-year deal after the bowl as did Skladany. It's an important point because if they had done anything with him after last season they would have to pay him for the 2nd year...

Well, dude, I disagree. Plenty of kids never get many reps at QB in high school but still play QB in college, including Andrew McNulty AND Caleb Chumley. Dillman got as many reps at QB over his high school career as either of them. Yet both those guys remain QBs at UNT while Dillman is a TE.

Certainly is. You don't lose your QB skills as we are to be led to believe.

We see kids transfer back and forth to play for different schools and get approved by the UIL every year. So the fact that a kid who moved in from out of state his Junior Year when his parents live out of country, deeming what should be an obvious special circumstance, and not get approved is beyond mysterious.

And if the UIL thought so highly of his skills to go so far as to bypass his special circumstance and deem his transfer as a "transfer for athletic purposes only", then someone in Austin was completely sold a bill of goods, considering that it turned out he couldn't even play QB for a JV team?

And what HS coach completely dismisses a player as a QB once highly thought of by some of the top college scouts in the nation?

So the JV coach Didnt want to win and play the second best QB in school? Not even durig a blowout win or anything?

Everything about this kid is a mystery imo and none of it makes sense.

RV was there before it started (I talked to him about the video problems), he spoke early and answered several questions from the audience at the end. The person that said he wasn't there is either blind or did not actually attend themself or has no clue who RV is. No way you could miss seeing him there. Where this stuff comes from and why folks post this garbage as fact is beyond comprehension. Way way to easy to check the facts before posting. But...only at North Texas!

You tip toe a slippery slope that divides the "this guy asked a simple question" and "I hate people that spread misinformation and wish them nothing but coals and the ire of UNT90" mantras.

I understand that it's we the alumni's fault for not donating enough money to get major things like this corrected and all, but this may be the most embarrassing video production I've ever seen, sound-quality and camera-work wise. For a university that has such a respected RTVF department surely this isn't the best we can do, right? I mean, I don't have a lot of money to give out for equipment as I know that stuff is expensive. But I have a couple of extra sewing needles out in the laundry room I could donate to poke the camera man now and then so he'll know to at least point the damn thing at the person talking.

Skip the awful production,I don't understand why NT continues to have one sided question and answer sessions at their press conferences. If you can't afford a mike for the audience, at least have someone you can hear repeat the question.

For those of you who weren't at the evening event you missed some good stuff. All of these are just factual observations, with no intended digs at the athletic department people.

- RV defended the schedule and said, specifically, "And I would never try to sell the SMU game as a sixth home game". Who says the folks in the athletic center don't read GMG? (Unless KRAM reports everything back to him?)

- Mac went all fire and brimstone and yelled at those in attendance because we play in a half empty stadium. Made it pretty clear that he hears us when we say "win Mac and we will come" but he's of the opinion that the winning will come when we give more support. Chicken...Egg...

- Several of the JUCO guys (and Chumley) were in attendance. They look like D1 players. I really am confident that this class will pay dividends...whether it's while Mac is still here...?

- RV assured us again that we absolutely will have six home games through the 2019 season and that 2020 and 2021 are almost locked up. Said conference rules prevent him from releasing the names of the teams we have lined up.

- RV tried to get the SMU AD to agree to sell $10 tickets to students from each school when the teams play each year. The SMU AD balked at the offer and said students will play $35 next season, so RV is in the process of trying to raise money to cover the difference for 5,000 students to attend at $10.

- The series with SMU is 20 years. I wasn't aware it was that long.

- The athletic department is looking at getting a circus tent for the SMU tailgate and turning it into a big party. RV said he'd like to put it on "the Boulevard".

- There is serious talk of making UTSA our annual rivalry game (someone get UNT90 his heart meds). RV is trying to line up the schedule to get the annual game put on an attractive date and the two student government associations are looking at a traveling trophy. (Right now the idea is a sombrero on the top...can't tell if he was serious on this one).

- I asked who would replace Jub Jub and Hank wouldn't divulge the candidates. He did say we are "looking within the family" so I assume it will be a NT alum!!

- There is a tailgate cooler that costs $265. I may have to sleep on someone's couch for a week but I am gonna buy that cooler!

- Coach Cosh and the new strength coach (name escapes me) spoke and I was impressed by their vision for this team.

Good Stuff Emmitt.

Still wish we would look 4.5 hours East rather than South for our "rival" game... but I guess that's just me.

Considering LaTech is going to view USM as their primary rival, and UTSA is going to view UTEP as their primary rival, attempts to claim either one of them as our primary rival are going to look pretty weak.

Sombrero? Lol. Leave it to RV not even to be able to negotiate a decent trophy deal.

Ask yourself which city would be presented by a sombrero...

I think the trophy should be a big ole porta pottie. We could just give the trophy to them every year.

I mean, they deserve it.

Question......

Was Babe and George and Lance and Zach there for this evening event?
