Has everyone else given up on DW? I have not. Our coaches need to do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed by not running the option and not attempting a 7 step drop play action pass from your own goal line.

Given up? No. But those workout reports we were seeing on him last winter should have been a serious red flag. The coaches can do better in many ways, but his hopes of ever starting begin with him giving more than he has.

He's going to need to take better care of the football and learn to check down and/or throw the ball away instead of trying too hard to make something happen and throw picks.

I need to see something out of DW that leads me to believe he has changed for the better. I hope it happens.

DW needs to put HIMSELF in a better place to succeed by doing what he is supposed to do in the weight room.

The question isn't whether we have given up on DW, but whether the coaching staff has given up on DW.

This is really disturbing if Smith had one job to do, pass his classes and get enrolled here for Spring and did not do it.

How can you trust him? Mac must be absolutely pissed at the job Canales is doing at handling the most important position on the field.

Good grief Demarcus. Get your act together!!!!

Maybe we should cut ties with one or both of these players that did not take care of business in the classroom while we can still sign a quality LB (Cain)

Mccarney is the one who calls the shots on QB evaluating and recruiting. We've even heard a first-hand example from the father of a QB recruit who posted on the board. It's on Mac just as much, if not more.

I read that situation as Mac saying that he needed the QB situation fixed for 2015 and a HS QB was probably not going to do that so they went the Juco route. Now, the Juci option does not take care of business and at best will get half the reps he should have received. I doubt Smith sees the field unless we are still an absolute train wreck at Q B.

What a cluster.

DW just doesn't seem to have that inner fire and drive to succeed. It's all up to him to quickly wake up to this great opportunity in life and self-motivate. Sorry to hear about Smith's academic issues. I seem to recall from his initial interviews that he put a priority on academics and his life post-degree. Apparently not thus far.

D. Smith did not pass one of his classes at JuCo. That is why he isn't officially enrolled at UNT. Will be here when summer workouts start.

D Smith is enrolled at UNT. I spoke to a student who has a class with him and was with him in class today.

My understanding from bits and pieces and even Mac's comments at the presser is that Smith 'is on his way'. He did not reference Smith or Thompson in terms of being here and available for Spring practice. I am not sure if there is some NCAA rule regarding number of hours or what, but it is certainly confusing what is going on. Maybe he is eligible to enroll, but not eligible to participate in varsity sports activities per NCAA? Does anyone have any insight? Not sure how one can be enrolled, but not officially enrolled. Do you have to be enrolled in a certain number of hours in order to be eligible to practice with the team? And maybe he can't enroll in more classes until he corrects the prior class issue? Confusing...

If he is not eligible for Spring practice, it changes everything about his presence here. He will lose half the potential reps. Same with Thompson.

Damarcus. he's in school at UNT.

He's been confirmed as not being able to join the team until after this semester. Either your source is mistaken, or he's somehow in school but not eligible to participate this semester because of his grades at Butler.

Means had the best performance in many eyes last spring game. So it would not be surprising to see him rise to the top.

But McNulty seems to shine the most in practices. Given all of the playing time he garnered last season I would expect him to be the top guy heading into Fall Camp.

I hope that Chico will adjust what he is doing to prepare these QB's for game actions. He needs to start throwing the kitchen sink at them all the time as that is likely what they will face.

We cannot afford the deer in the headlights look against SMU...

As weak as our QB race turned out to be, I would feel a lot more confident in Means had he at least edged his nose in the QB race last year. Especially considering he was here in the spring, and we saw a true freshman push DT and almost win the job the year before. But I know asking too much from a freshman isn't fair. It just would've made me more confident in him, given his high school stats.

This is a big spring for Means, Dajon, and Chumley. Even if they don't win the job, one of them needs to emerge as a strong candidate for QB of the future.
