UNT spring enrollment climbs as 34,163 students enroll

DENTON (UNT), Texas – Spring enrollment at the University of North Texas increased over 2014 with 34,163 students enrolled. In addition, students are taking more class hours, indicating a continued focus on academic achievement.

"UNT's student retention efforts and programs such as Eagle Express, which offers a $3,000 refund for those graduating in four years, are paying off as students are more focused on earning their degrees, taking more semester hours to graduate in a timely manner," said Elizabeth With, vice president for student affairs. "This spring, students have registered for more than 388,000 credit hours, a record for the spring semester."

Four of UNT's 11 colleges and schools recorded double-digit growth compared with spring 2014 including the College of Engineering, up 23.3 percent, the College of Information, up 13.5 percent and the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, up 13 percent.

The number of new undergraduate transfer students increased 11.1 percent and the number of new graduate students rose 12.2 percent.

UNT is one of the most diverse campuses in the nation, and the spring enrollment continues to show growth among all of UNT's populations. UNT's Hispanic student population grew to 6,670, compared with 6,146 students in spring 2014, an increase of 8.5 percent. A total of 4,689 African American students registered for classes, compared to 4,613 in spring 2014, an increase of 1.6 percent. Asian/Pacific Island students grew to 2,267, compared to 2,204 in spring 2013, a 2.9 percent increase.

Until the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board verifies enrollment numbers and makes them official later in the spring, 12th class day numbers are unofficial.

True but it did still increase compared to 2014. So that is a positive in my mind.

Spring semester enrollment #. It's always less than the Fall semester. This is a solid increase.

Spring enrollment is always smaller than fall. Due in part to a large graduation in December along with fewer new students entering in spring compared to fall.

Higher attendance figures are generally fall numbers.

Who cares about UTA...Before getting out of the military, having never lived in Texas, I looked up UNT bc I had heard of UNT and mostly good things. I didn't even consider UTA. Want to know why...bc I had never heard of them before. So, that's what UTA has going for them. Nothing.

No, 36k live in Texas. They are including their online enrollment which is around 11,000. Deceiving to say the least.
