4-8 with QB play the same as last year. 6-6 with QB play the same as Thompson's last year. 8-4 with dynamic QB who makes plays

That is how I feel. There are far too many variables at the QB position. If we don't improve at QB, it is going to be another long season.

I do feel better about the late recruiting push.

If it took the Playoff Committee until almost the end of the season to put Marshall in the top 25, I don't think we'd get anywhere near there no matter what are record is. Sad thing, but that's college football for ya. Power 5 rules everything.

Marshall played nobody all season, so they weren't impressive. If we, by some miracle, were to go undefeated, we would get attention from the committee a lot sooner given that we would have to beat 2 P5 schools on the road.

yeah i really am excited about this class. coaches did a great job addressing needs and not reaching on a kid just because we needed the depth/numbers. i am a fan of the JUCO route personally. I know history has not served us well with that. But we had giant spots needing to be filled with proven/ bigger/more mature players.

This is exactly the approach one SHOULD take if they want to keep their sanity while still being a fan of UNT athletics.

That's kinda the point, man. I'm not gonna melt down anymore. I did that once, and once was enough. If I'm gonna shell out the cash and make the effort to attend, I'm going to enjoy myself whether I like it or not. I refuse to apologize to the old timers for not consistently flagellating myself and damn near hoping for bad shit to happen to UNT just to prove my point.

But what the hell do I care? I'll be raising my ubiquitous craft beer to the real fans, the games themselves a mere afterthought.

I was so proud of you, the first step is admitting you have a problem. So brave.

But then the backsliding began.

I predicted 4-8 last year and can't see us doing any better with the shape the team was in at the end of last season. As many have pointed out, QB play will be key as well as seeing how this signing class fits in and meshes with the coaches.

Right now I think 4-8 with the schedule we have is the best that can be hoped for.

We could be as bad as 2-10 with the only wins being SMU and Portland State. The Apogee factor could get us a couple more wins, and this is when the road-heavy schedule with no bye week(s) really hurts.

I don't see how those two statements disagree with each other, and I don't understand your need to antagonize.

Righteous indignation is a quiet intoxicating.

All dependent on the QB play. I can't make a prediction now although I'm feeling optimistic. Maybe after the Spring Game.

I can almost guarantee you that McNulty will start. He's a senior, Coach Mac loves him, and he is an experienced busdriver. McCarney already said he's the starter going into 2015.

Assuming that all of that is true--and I really believe it is--I see us at 3-9 or 4-8. 5-6 wins is possible, but not likely. Anything above 6-6 as your expectation means you are a true homer...

We beat SMU and Portland State, as well as wins over UTSA and/or UTEP, which gets us to 3-4 wins.

It is entirely possible that we win less than 3 games--much more likely than winning 5 games. I'm just going on the belief that SMU isn't going to be much better than they were last year--if we beat them by 37 points in Denton last year, I'll take us to win a close one in Dallas this year. They aren't going to that much better than they were last year (at least early on) and we aren't going to that much worse than we were last year. Even playing that game in Dallas won't change this--we win a close game, like 27-24. If we lose that game, I really don't see more than a 2-10 record, at best.

I have nothing to go on except what I saw last year and knowledge that Mac seems to have a serious aversion to wining on the road. 3-9 overall. 1-6 on the road, if we're lucky. Victory over Portland State at home and one or two more just because Apogee.

So based solely upon what I saw last year, 4-8 is optimistic, 5-7 would be really good. 7-5 is a pipe dream.

My pick exactly. Throw in the new DC, all the JUCOs, and the tough schedule....this could be a rough year.

Lots of people are counting the SMU game as a win just like the 2013 UTSA game.

We should win, but it's a long way from a certain win. Despite the fiasco they presented

in 2014's game, they are not Nicholls or Portland.

2-10 not sure where even the second win will come from, with La Tech and UTSA both gaining stud transfers, while we have 10 QB's who can not figure out how to put the ball into the opponents end zone.

W: Portland St, ???

Ok, 2 wins...what's our coaching situation looking like in 2016 if we manage 2 wins? Does RV get fired when BOR and Prez S realize the reality of the situation after a 2-10 season and 4/5 losing seasons? The situation being that we are stuck with a loser (if 2-10 occurs) and there is nothing we can do about it bc RV pushed for a 5 year extension??

The BOR will do nothing, RV, DMac, Benford, and Peterson will all finish their contracts and the BOR will be fine with whatever happens, unless they win then they can play pattie cakes with each other, but keep on losing and just move on, they have more important things to deal with than athletics

Yeah, like keep a financially sound university? Wait..that's not it.

For all of their faults, the financial situation cannot be blamed on the Athletic Department. In the last report to the Office of Education there was a surplus of $4M created from athletics. In addition, they have developed several large donors who have improved athletic facilities and continue to do so.

Nor can the BOR be blamed as well. Their actions were based on information furnished by the administration.

The two financial officers, who have since resigned, were the culprits. The auditing staff was also culpable in that they did not uncover the errors. The chief auditor has also been replaced so there should be no future problems. The shortfall was deemed to be from incompetence; not malfeasance.

Sadly, the entire university must suffer. The AD cannot use any of their surplus to buy out contracts, improve facilities, or even pay the additional scholarship costs that have been a byproduct of the P5 conferences. Instead, they will bear an x-percent decrease to make up for the shortfall and that will likely result in a reduction of certain expenses.
