Where is he getting the eligibility from?

Not sure. If the coaches and TJ say it's possible then I believe them. We played a team recently who had a 6th year grad student. I do not know the logistics, but I trust the people who do.

He has only played 3 seasons. It was an injury that kept him from playing at all in 2010-11. But it was the transfer rule that kept him out in 2012-13. I'm not sure if that will get him the 6th year. Regardless, he'd have to file a request after the season, and there is no guarantee that he'd be approved until he is.

Well I have gathered it's a yes if TJ wants to and a no if he does not. Perhaps they are very confident a request will be accepted? I certainly hopes he stays at it will give us a very deep back court.

He held his own the only time I saw him in AAU play. (last year) He's bigger and better now. Of course he will not dominate right away in CUSA but he is ready for prime time. Don't know if you read the article but his goal is to be the best big man recruit in the history of the program. I can't disagree with that at this stage.

Article I clicked on was on a pay site.

Did I miss something?

Vito posted an article where he said he would look to pursue a 6th year. It is not just up to him. He would have to get a waiver granted. Here is his situation.

2010-2011 - Sat out the season and redshirted at OU due to concussions and then transferred

2011-2012 - Played the full season as a redshirt freshman at Paris JC

2012-2013 - Transferred to UNT after signing an LOI and enrolling/practicing with Marquette. NCAA ruled him ineligible, THEN he had shoulder surgery.

2013-2014 - Played for North Texas

2014-2015- Played for North Texas

In order to get a 6th year, he would have to prove that he played less than 30% of two separate seasons due to injury. He can prove one, being the 2010-2011 season. The second one he can bring into question is the 2012-2013 season here. The roadblock for him is that he was already declared ineligible when the injury was declared and the surgery occurred. Maybe if he had elected that he would have season-ending shoulder surgery prior to the NCAA's verdict, he would have a better shot at getting the NCAA to approve the waiver

As it stands, I don't think the chances are great that he would be awarded a hardship waiver for a 6th year.

The request will get approved/denied at the end of the year. It is impossible to know for sure at this point, even our coaching staff/AD.

I refuse to get my hopes up on this, as we NEVER get these approved. Most recently with Reese.

In fact, I wish they wouldn't even throw out these as possibilities since it just leads to disappointment for the fans.

personally, I can't wait for the day when we're all talking about 13 and 14 year olds potential on National High School signing day.

Kinda already happens out in California where the private schools play in the same organization as the publics. These tiny catholic schools in southern california with enrollments of like 15 people win the state football championships year in and year out.

Season came to an end Tuesday night to a good Tyler All Saints. (19 points)

Can you clue us in on who the last 3 scholerships may go to? I'm concerned we have not heard any names as the season winds down.

This time last year we hasn't heard of Todd Eaglin, Muhammad Ahmed, Greg White-Pittman, or J-Mychal Reese (at least not connected to UNT).

And two years ago we hadn't heard of Colin Voss, Armani Flannigan, Maurice Aniefiok, Vertrail Vaughns, or Kelvin Gaines. So it's not out of the ordinary, under Benford at least, that we haven't heard any names for these last 3 spots. That's because they'll most likely be transfers/JUCO guys. Maybe 2 if not all 3.

I'm fine with JUCOS and transfers, although I would like another freshman to get younger. We need to get young guys who can develope long term chemistry.

If Benford was in his 1st or 2nd year, I could understand a 3rd freshman in the upcoming class. (Or, if he had gotten off to a good start). Don't forget that JaMichael Brown of San Antonio Pro-Vision (Prep School) will be a freshman and of course, Brice will be a freshman. As they say in the pro game, its a contract year for him. (or the following year). He must continue to show improvement to keep his job and possibly receive an extension after his 5th year. Next year is critical. I know he senses the urgency.

I believe a successful team must have a good point guard and a good post (center) I think what this team lacks is what we have coming in. He has to hit on the 2 or 3 ships remaining in a huge way. Therefore, I think he almost have to go Juco's or land a transfer with immediate eligibility. (Maybe someone who will graduate with another year remaining) I don't know how accurate or updated the names are that are currently on the recruiting sites. Like BillySee stated, we'll just have to wait. I don't think the kids know at this time. Many of them will have to have their heart broken first by larger programs first before they look at North Texas. We are not at that stage yet.

I had posted a P5 possibility a few weeks ago that was mentioned to me. Haven't heard more since then. It should start to heat up here soon after the season. I'm actually taking a break now from watching the Region XIV Juco tournament on the web; trying to identify prospects that may makes sense.
