North Texas’ Lemon showcasing his versatility for scouts

Cyril Lemon couldnt have asked for a better college career at North Texas. He started every game since his freshman season, which amounted to 49 consecutive. He earned all-conference honors every year. And now hes getting an opportunity to show he can play at the next level.

Lemon is participating in the College Gridiron Showcase, practicing before NFL scouts in hopes that he has a future playing on Sundays.

Optimum Scouting has been covering the practices all week...

Tuesday - http://optimumscouting.com/draft/2015-college-gridirion-showcase-tuesday-practice-notes.html

Among those that struggled, Rice’s Ian Gray and North Texas’ Antonio Johnson stopped their feet after first contact and repeatedly lost during pit drill one-on-one’s. Both players are built with wide bases, but the lack of foot speed and balance is concerning for NFL evaluators.

Wednesday - http://optimumscouting.com/draft/2015-college-gridiron-showcase-wednesday-practice-notes.html

Thursday - http://optimumscouting.com/draft/2015-college-gridiron-showcase-thursday-practice-notes.html

And after watching all three padded practices, the following prospects are the top ten prospects I looked at, in no particular order.

Top 10 with Best Chance of Becoming NFL Draft picks

  • Neal Sterling, Monmouth, WR

  • Nigel King, Kansas, WR

  • Adrian Coxson, Stony Brook, WR

  • Leon Brown, Alabama, OL

  • Jacob Gannon, Iowa State, OL

  • Doniel Gamrell, Notre Dame College, OL

  • James Rouse, Marshall, DE

  • Josh Shirley, UNLV, OLB

  • Taurean Nixon, Tulane, CB

  • Tray Walker, Texas Southern, CB

One thing my following of other CFB All-star games has helped me understand is that while scouts would love to see a finished product with no flaws from day 1, their primary effort is to see how a prospect improves through the week and responds to a new coaching staff offering guidance & direction.

This would likely be especially important to them at an event like this one where the prospects under the microscope are thought to be ultimately contenders for late-round selection. Hopefully, both of our guys can cap off a week of maximum effort, focus, and improvement with a dominant performance this afternoon.

One thing we know: with scouts watching intently both Lemon & Johnson displayed great helmet logo "versatility" on Saturday

Count me as one who enjoys the tradition of mucking up one's helmet with the logos of other schools in these all-star events. Only chance a player gets to gain personalize his uniform. Reminds me of my first bass guitar which ended up covered the stickers of various bands
