The Unorthodox Journey of Swedish UNT Commit Kevin Dillman

I feel like you're arguing points that I'm not making. I've never said he's a guy who we need to throw into our mix at QB for the 2015 season, and I've never used this kid and the word savior together.

That's why I've only compared him to our QBs who will still have eligibility 2-3 years from now. Not guys like Smith or Mcnulty. Redshirt him and develop him, because even if Smith works out, he only has two years of eligibility left. And we have a lot of question marks after that, and not just the average question marks that every team has with their young QBs.

I'm not opposed to this... but... if they're bringing him in at TE, and he can excel there quickly, then why not have a year of Senior QB Smith throwing to RSF Dillman (after Marcus Smith graduates this season), plus have him already developed at the TE position for whoever comes in at QB after Smith?

Worst case scenario - I'd hate to have coach Walsh be correct about his QB abilities, but the staff wastes time they could be using developing him into a TE while tinkering with him at QB for 2 years. Causing him to not be a top-notch TE.

Best case scenario - you've already spelled that out: After 2 years of Smith, Dillman is ready to step up as a RSSoph, & we have 3 years of a top C-USA QB.

Tricky situation for sure.

The thing with Dillman and Chumley (and maybe even Means) is that if QB doesn't work out, they're headed for the same position. If QB isn't working out for Chumley after this spring then you look at moving him to tight end. If you give him and Dillman a chance to play QB in the fall, then you'll be able to tell then who has a chance to be your QB of the future. If it's Chumley then you can move Dillman to tight end and give him spring and fall to get the position down. Vice versa if it's Chumley. They'd still be good to go by Smith's senior year. Plus, you're bringing in at least another tight end this class in Kelvin Smith, and with 4 senior tight ends I think we'll get a JUCO tight end regardless.

I just don't have near the concern for the future at tight end that I do at QB. And mainly because of how we can get by with just serviceable tight ends, but we'll suffer much more if we can't find a QB.
