Going in to January, we had 18 commits (counting Wheeler decommitment).

In January, we have picked up Dillman (3 star), D'Aundrey Bradley (3 star), and Eli Howard (2 star with multiple G5 offers). These 3 would take us to 21 for the class.

We are in the final running, with decisions coming as soon as tomorrow for Paul Banks (3 star), Jareid Combs (2 star with multiple G5 offers).

Plus potentially still in the running for Derek Watson (DE), Eric David (OL), Jalen Thomas (OL), Demikal Harrison (DT), David Dorsett (DE), and maybe even Carl Thompson (DT).

I am sure there are others that we are looking at that we may not know about, plus anyone that we are trying to flip, plus the potential of losing a commit. Either way, we are probably down to the last couple of spots unless we lose someone. With a strong finish, this could be a pretty decent class on paper.

This just can't be! These coaches are ignorant when it comes to recruiting! Amazing what a little good news can do to the attitude of a fickle fanbase

Good article by Brett. It was a good Sunday for us.

Good news is we got a couple good players who did have 2 other FBS offers each. We should be getting to the point where we're getting more of those guys, so it's a step in the right direction. We also may have set ourselves up for some more commits coming up.

Not as good news is that this staff didn't suddenly prove that they're ace recruiters. We got a guy with Tulsa and New Mexico State offers, who lives much closer to us than those schools, and we got a guy from DFW with New Mexico and New Mexico State offers. They're good pickups, but not really recruiting battles that really are going to get anyone's attention. Both guys that I'm very happy with though.

Also, hoping this is a step towards making Cedar Hill a pipeline is unrealistic. The kids from the metroplex powers grow up wanting to play for the big schools, and if they're good they'll get the exposure at those schools to be seen by dozens of colleges. The good players will have good offer lists, so if we are going to get any good players out of those schools then we'll need to be able to win recruiting battles. Luckily there are late bloomers at those schools and guys who transfer in, like Bradley did. So they may not get offered until during or after their senior years, which opens the door for us. Having a good reputation at those schools is great, and what we need to establish. Developing a pipeline is unrealistic, but as long as we have a good reputation we'll have a shot with their G5 prospects.

And yeah, like you guys were saying, El Paso the city is not UTEPs difficulty in recruiting. It's the fact that it's hundreds of miles from anywhere worth noting. Especially for a college kid. It should be harder to recruit to El Paso than us because of proximity. Not because Denton is 10X better a city.

El Paso the city and the location have been a barrier to their recruiting efforts for decades. This will not change overnight.

The key difference is they have hired a good coach who is working really hard to change that perception. They are working the streets hard, building relationships. In the past they would typically focus more in California and jucos.

Brett, no one is tooting Dentons horn so to speak. However, let's not compare El Paso and Denton. Let's not do that, it's ludacrious. It's El Paso, EL PASO!!!

Top 10 reasons some people might prefer El Paso to Denton

10 They are just not that into trees.

9 They like to go shopping for cheap souvenirs.

8 They really want to learn Spanish.

7 They like cactus.

6 Easier to get a sun tan when there are no clouds.......ever.

5 El Paso has more Mexican food restaurants.

4 They like l o n g road trips.

3 Only a 10 hour drive from DFW if you drive fast and don't take breaks.

2 No surprise visits by mom and dad.

1 .....but it's a dry heat
