Tony Mitchell won multiple Sun Belt player of the weeks and led the conference in points/game, rebounds/game, 3 pt field goal %, and blocks/game in conference games as a freshman.

Combs scoring average is just barely above 8 points/game against Division 1 opponents.

Awesome player, unfair comparison.

Josh White lead the team in scoring, average points per game, FTs made, FT %, and 3FG % (when you toss out Ronald Horne's 3-4 for 75% 3FG in only 8 games played) in the 2007-2008 campaign.

In the last two decades, the best freshman we've had was either Davis, White, or Mitchell.

IMHO

White was slow but had good teammates around him and mitchell had no moter at all! Davis is the only one I could see being on the level of combs. Stats are not everything. Combs hustles and plays the game right. He will be freshman of the year in CUSA.

Josh White was not slow at all? Opposing teams ALWAYS commented how fast he was.

Mitchell had a RIDICULOUS freshman year stats wise. I am not saying Combs won't be a great player someday, but you can't put his freshman campaign in any of their stratosphere. I mean good God people.

Josh white was extremely slow for a point guard. What are you talking about!? I played with him at the rec during the summer when the team would come in and play and he got ribbed for being slow! What are you talking about!?

Mitchel was not named sunbelt freshmen of the year and Combs very well may be the CUSA player of the year. He plays the game right.

Mitchell was most definitely named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.

Josh White never had a problem getting by his man. If you read message boards from other teams, their fans constantly remarked how quick he was. Maybe it was deceptive speed, but he looked fast out there.

And how freaking old are you? You constantly act like you hang out with the current guys, but White graduated years ago. :P

I guess I was thinking about player of the year when Rubit beat him out.

Tony really should have been POTY as a frosh. Really the only reason he wasn't was bias against freshmen winning awards. He was #1 in basically every statistical category.

While we're throwing around awards ... Josh White was also named Freshman of the Year for the Sun Belt Conference.

Chris Davis was the last player to receiver that same honor before White.

Just watch Combs play. He is a ball hawk. Minus his struggle at the free throw line he puts up good numbers and makes the plays. He has an un canny ability to find his way to the ball and extend possesions or get put backs.

I'm 28 and was in college from 04-10 and then stayed close to the team for a little bit because of connections. White to J. Williams is where my timeline runs from. White and Tristan were freshmen when I was a freshmen.

White was a freshman in 2007-2008 and graduated in 2011.

Stop ... Just ... Stop.

So you were in your 4th freshman year? Josh and Tristan were freshmen in the '07-'08 season.

Hmm.. Well Tristan was in my freshmen level speech class and I thought they were in the same graduating class. Maybe my timing is off? It very well could be.

They were...2007-2008 season through 2010-2011.

He will be freshman of the year in CUSA.

The two frontrunners for FOTY in our conference actually played each other tonight. Likely favorite Torin Dorn had a 16 and 5 night, and inconsistent contender Nick Norton blew up for 26 points and 5 assists.

I'm glad Combs is a Freshman, and I can't wait to see what he does in his career here, which hopefully lasts 4 full years and involves half or more years under a coach not named Benford.
