Another thing to consider, when recruiting against FCS schools, is that as an FBS school all of our scholarships must be full scholarship. You get 85 scholarships to use on 85 players. FCS gets 63 scholarships to use, but they're allowed to have partial scholarships, or partial counters. For example, they could have 85 athletes on scholarship, but still only use 63 scholarships. Say 4 players have 75% scholarships, then that only adds up to 3 scholarships out of the 63.

I don't know if David is being given a 100% scholarship at SHSU, but we are. Either way, you should be able to flip a commit from an FCS school. He's obviously not plan A, and he does appear to be small and maybe doesn't have the upperbody strength you'd expect in an FBS lineman, but the staff wouldn't offer if they didn't think he had potential. He does do a good job of sticking on his block until the whistle.

That's Steve Russ on the left of David. Russ was an all conference middle linebacker for Air Force, was a 7th round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in '95 and a Super Bowl Champion for them in '98. He played at 6'4", 245 lbs, and in this picture he dwarfs David. No way, not even for Sam Houston does this kid start at O tackle any time soon.
