The team will not play in either the Conference USA tournament or any possible postseason bid afterward.

The ban is a result of the ongoing investigation into the men's basketball program for both of the past two seasons under former coach Donnie Tyndall, who is now the coach of Tennessee. The investigation is regarding how tuition and other expenses were paid for some recruits who signed with the Golden Eagles but were not yet eligible for scholarships. A source conveyed to Gary Parrish on November 6 that the situation is "serious."

Bill McGillis, the school's athletic director, said this in the press release:

“I am saddened and extremely disappointed for the members of our men's basketball team, who will not be able to participate in the postseason this year, as well as for our new coaching staff and fans,” McGillis said. “This self-imposed penalty was a painful, but necessary, decision based on information gathered during the review process and available to the university at this time.”

The Golden Eagles are currently 5-11 this season with a KenPom rating of 323rd in the country out of 351 teams.

it feels like we've done the same thing. three years running now...

Yeah, we did ours more stealthily--by paying a recruiter to become a head coach for 4 years. The transformative "hockey-line" change that he used early on was particularly impressive in its ridiculousness...
