Is the company or driver responsible for any financial/legal mess if the fire spreads to the grass and - worst case scenario - into private land?

I'm sure insurance plays into that but am curious what you know. I suppose the company will gladly pay some-thousand dollars if it meant saving a truck that was $300,000+.

Just a guess, but If it's a freeway in a city the state owns it and they probably could care less since they won't have to mow it for a season? If it's county and it reaches a privately owned field/property and does significant damage to something then I could see a legal battle looming?

The reason I differentiate city and county is it's not going to get out of hand in a city. They respond too quickly usually. In rural county areas the response time can be significant, giving the fire time to take off.

Major cities' fire departments are also much better trained and equipped to stop these kind of fires quickly.

Don't be modest, Rick.
