He was in on the 4th and 2 pass that Dez caught at the goal line...

And he (Lance) was open, too.

One thing I haven't heard any of the talking heads address is Dez's thought process on that play. I know it's instinctive for any player, and especially Dez, to attempt to get in the end zone on that play, but isn't the first priority making the catch? He knows the rule, right?Just tuck the ball away and get down on the 1 and 1/2 yard line...

That rule is terrible and has been for 4 years.

I don't see how reaching for the goal line after securing the catch is not a "football action". It's easy to see when a guy is off-balance and the ball hits the ground as he's falling out of bounds being an incomplete catch... but reaching for the goal line to score, that's a "football action".

The crazy thing is, under this rule, even if Dez had gotten the ball past the goal line before hitting the ground and the ball coming out, it still would not have been a catch or a touchdown.

Crazy stupid.

Yes, it's a crazy stupid rule.

I still believe the Cowboys should have played better through out the game and that play would not have mattered.

This is coming way out of left field, but for some reason that freakish catch by Dez had me remembering back to when Dodge nearly signed him in that first recruiting class. It was down to us and Okie St. Todd Dodge made a bunch of mistakes here, but the man had us in on some serious talent and landed a decent share. Tired of hearing how hard it is to recruit to UNT. It's been done before and we have better facilities, a better conference and more money than ever before behind us. I like DMac, and am pulling for him and the staff to finish this recruiting season off strong.

What confuses me is the officials descriptive on what is a runner, and what is possession. I've heard several contradict each other, from Blandino to Peirera and another on Sports Center last night.

1). He never established himself as a runner while possessing the ball.

...........Yet he covered nearly 5 yards from his first of three steps till the ball bounced.

2) He never had control of the ball.....

.......Yet he not only catches the ball, he transferred it from having it in both hands to his left and took his third step and touched with a knee and an elbow in the process.

So, the question stands, how many steps do you have to take with the ball in your hand before possession is established? 4, 5, 6 steps?

Had this happened in the middle of the field and he fumbled and it was recovered by a Packer, would they have deemed it incomplete and given the ball back to Dallas at the original line of scrimmage? I doubt it.

And I've only heard Mickey Spagnola mention the Randle Cobb no-catch that was overturned to be a catch. The reverse angle clearly showed the ball bounced. How do you get that call wrong on replay?

I had no idea we were in on Dez. Too bad Dodge couldn't coach.

It's one of those big "what-ifs", though. Gundy hadn't really completely established himself and Okie St back when this was going on. You could make an argument that having a player of Dez's caliber on the roster helped them break through, initially. Wonder if the same thing could have happened here? As freakish a talent as Dez is, can you imagine him in the Sun Belt?! He could have been our Randy Moss....

For some reason, I can't get the quote function to work, but FFR has hit on every point I discussed with a friend after the game. That moron on ESPN last night that was a retired official made zero sense and they wouldn't call him on it. Not a chance he was going to throw his old colleagues under the bus.

I don't think we were.

TIGreen, where are you getting this? His offer sheet was huge and he was a 4* guy.

Totally off of memory....which could maybe be fading? :) I thought I remembered him getting lots of offers but then having most of them back off as he appeared to be a head-case? Sorry if I'm starting wild @ss speculation....

The Cowboys went 12-4, 8-0 on the road including at Seattle, won a playoff game and could have beat GB to be in the NFC championship and we want Garrett gone why?

The Cowboys have done a much better job drafting in recent years minus the Claiborne trade and Escobar pick. I hope we can keep most of the players, coaching staff and personnel together because this team can be a title contender in 2015.

Yup. They all have their heads in the sand over this one.
