You'll only need one hand to count the amount of people that actually show up for this.

Just a built in excuse why attendence will be poor in addition to minimizing the chances someone asks an embarrassing question. I don't think that uncomfortable questions are the main reason though since the people who might ask them are unlikely to go anyway.

Interesting....I do not recall ever seeing five of the six prior posters in attendance when the shows started at 6pm or 7pm. Didn't we already have a thread dedicated to this change?

Could...could...the change in any way be related to when the stations were available to carry the show or what and when sponsors wanted the show to air? You all know attendance was not great last season, so perhaps they are trying something new....like the Alumni's Young Professional Noon luncheons in Dallas that drew large crowds. Large enough that the AD said we drew more than the evening coaches caravan in Dallas and that he might try a noon Caravan schedule. Attendees were not "retirees" as well, but rather young (and not so young) business professionals. Perhaps it is a look-see at deciding if noon works. TWU holds their quarterly athletic events at noon in Denton as well, and they are well attended...I have attended a couple. They are held at Outback in Denton. Could it be that the coaches requested this move to better fit their coaching and recruiting schedules and the schedules of the student-athletes who often come to be part of the program. Could it be that Rudy's asked to try this to see if it helps with their lunch business? Rudy's has been a great partner for UNT with the BB and FB shows...just maybe they asked for a favor. I don't know. But, the possibility exists as much as any of the possibilities suggested. You know, in business it is a truism that you need to change and try new things to be successful. Maybe UNT is just trying something different.

Anyway...whatever the reason I will miss a couple of the "regulars" who drove up from Carrollton and Lewisville for the shows each week. I feel bad for them, and will keep their seats warm until they can get back for a show.

It will be interesting to see after three or four weeks if this time slot catches any traction. If it does great...if not..lOK...maybe it can be moved back to a later time or another day.

Well we know of 2 at least, right?

I question the whole radio show thing anyways. If a coach is going to do a show, fine. But why pay him for it? Isn't Mac getting $20-$30k for this? What's Benny getting?

Seems like a waste of money. We're certainly not getting anything in return for it, and very little information.

My guess is that in contract negotiations, things like radio show stipend and car allowance are provided to up total compensation, but are not part of base salary, and therefore are not subject to being part of a contract buyout.

I am not a lawyer. Do not take this as advice. It is merely a guess.

How so...you can always send the question in through Facebook? Well, yes, I guess that could be censored. But, even with the football shows, no one ever asks questions folks who do not care to show up suggests "others" ask for them. Even when some of the more vocal folks did attend, they never stepped up to the mike to ask any pointed questions. Much easier to just "suggest" here that others do it for them than actually having the "you know whats to do it themselves". Agree with you that the folks who might (and that's a really big might) ask such questions are unlikely to attend. Follows the usual pattern.

I really do wish some of these folks would come and ask the questions in person that seem to bother them so much. It might be enlightening to them, to the coach and to others in attendance. It is an open mike so their questions cannot be censored ahead of time. And, hopefully, they would ask it with the same zeal they seem to post such with here on GMG.Com. Open mike folks, step right up. We'll be looking for you on the 12th. Would make for a great show. Might even help ratings.

Not true. One brave soul stood up and asked RV if we would have 6 home games in football in 2015.

And RV gave a non-answer.

Tell me, when pointed questions are asked and the response is political style non-answers, why bother attending?

Not to mention I live 3 counties away and am not going to drive to Denton for the coach show of a program that is mired in decades of self-loathing with no end on the horizon.

Oh, darn....got me with that one...I admit it...I must have missed that ONE really pointed question in my multiple years of attendance at both the BB and FB shows. I guess one such question every three or four years signifies folks are really queuing up with those hot sports questions. So, one "non-answer" scares off everyone from pelting these folks with pointed questions? Wow...must have learned surrender techniques from the French Army. Either that or that one non-answer was really really scary. Come on...tough guys... Hang in there...keep asking until you get the answer you want. It would definitely spice up the shows and up the attendance and radio ratings.

Could you enlighten the uninformed as to just what his "non-answer" might have been? Or, was it just not the answer you were looking for at the time? I don't know as I missed it. May have been out if town or in the men's room for that one. Like everyone I am interested in this 6-game schedule thingy.

Yes...we all know you live a few counties away. Understand, but you have said countless and countless times that you don't care. Why are you not caring so much as to post numerous times each day?

I'll be honest, I've never attended the coaches show. I always had a class during that time in the spring and fall. But I have been to the coaches caravan to see RV PROMISE that we will always have 6 home games and Benford blame the prior season on the team not having the right and attitude.

His answer was along the lines of "we are working on it and always have a goal to have 6 home games," knowing the whole time that he was putting off an inevitable announcement.

So it really wasn't a political answer so much as it was an outright lie. Should people ask questions just to be lied to? Is that why we should attend and cause a tense situation by asking RV questions that RV's boss should be asking him?

Yep, slowly caring less and less about basketball every day, but it's kinda like a car wreck at this point. It's hard not to look at the carnage.

Never have been to a coach's show, probably never will go to a coach's show. They just don't hold any interest for me, and it's always inconvenient to get to Denton during the week regardless of time. I ask my questions of constructive criticism in private and would never be the guy to cause a scene on radio. See my many past posts of learning to keep my fool mouth shut at games.

None of that changes the message I see broadcast loud and clear via this time change. They fear that guy, whoever it may be, so they're making it really hard for him to arrive.

Nonetheless, I work 40 miles outside Denton, generally from very early in the morning until fairly late in the evening and UNT90 barely even lives in the state of Texas, what with all that new fangled Hood County electricity and municipal water they're still getting used to, it must take him several days to guide his ox driven cart to Denton. But still, I know my place, and he knows his:

You say it was a lie, but do you know that he wasn't working to move a game? You assume that he was just lying to avoid a tough answer, but you have no evidence that was the case, just your own personal opinion. He did not guarantee that the game would be moved, he said that they were attempting to move it. Be mad at him for creating the situation where the schedule has the two away games, but don't project anger that he knowingly lied when you simply have no evidence that was the case.

Actually, there was a massive amount of evidence if you cared to look.

When he made that statement, we had 4 home games scheduled.

FOUR.

We also had 3 contracted OOC away games. Tennessee had already been moved once and Tennessee wasn't going to allow us to move it again. SMU was a part of a long term series, thus not moveable, and Iowa was a pride and joy. But lets say he magically convinced Iowa to back the game up to the open spot in 2018. Well, he would then have to find a team with an away spot on their schedule in 2015 that needed a home game in 2019, the earliest we could return the game. Way too late in the scheduling game for that to even be a possibility. Or he could ask for the Iowa game to be moved to 2016, but then we would have a 5 home game season in 2016. and he would have to pay money for both these changes. Contracts are made for a reason.

Or, he could pay 2 teams money game money to come to Denton in 2015. Ain't a chance in hell.

This question was asked late summer 2014. Please tell me what school is going to move their schedule that late in the game? The answer is not a freaking one, unless you pay them a buttload of money, and we all know that's not happening.

But RV later had the chance to answer the question again when Harry asked him point blank. Twice. On 2 different podcast.

The first time he again danced around the question knowing full well the answer. The second time he talked about how challenging the schedule was and Tulsa leaving the conference really messed things up (big news here folks: TULSA ISN'T AN OOC GAME!).

As a matter of fact, I still don't think he has publicly stated that we will only have 5 home games next year, and probably won't until the schedule is released. He simply won't fade the heat. Probably because he hasn't had to his entire career at UNT.

But you are right, no evidence at all...

I always loved the post-game radio shows in EP. Miner radio network would hang around, discuss the game for a few minutes and then take call-ins. I think sometimes this lasted more than an hour during a good season (fan excitement).

I thought that was much more entertaining than a coach's show, though I enjoy both.

Yes. $35,00 stipend for the show - http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20121204-mens-basketball-unt-reveals-benford-contract.ece

Although I probably won't get to attend now due to work, I don't mind the time change. Something needed to be done since the show has been so poorly attended. Maybe a noon start will attract a new crowd. Hopefully the athletic department will give away tickets at the event to the non UNT fans in attendance

I got to attend several JJ shows & a handful of Benford's. They were / are both very approachable at these events ( JJ even use to sit our table and talk to my son). Benford has always been open for conversations with the people in attendance.

All this is evidence that it was a tough job to move a game to make room for another home game. None of this is evidence that he lied when he said that they were working to get 6 home games, as was your accusation. He may have known that it was not likely that they would succeed, but were still trying to find a way to make it work.

I believe the way it went down was before we joined CUSA, we had a multiple game contract with Tulsa. When North Texas joined the conference with Tulsa in 2013, the contract was voided and so we then had holes in our out of conference schedule that needed to be filled.
