Recent grad here..is there anything to be excited about next year? I don't believe our new defensive coordinator is what we are looking for and we need a shake up in offense. Agree? Do you guys believe we were just a flash in the pan, or do yall see improvement for the program?

A lot of unknowns. We will need them to step up in a big way. If these JUCO guys can come in and contribute particularly at the QB position then I see us having a pretty decent team. It's a lot of weight on one players shoulders, but I am sure he was entirely aware of the situation before he made his decision to come to North Texas.

Don't give up never give up.

College football Mean Green football is a blessing and there is a lot of fun to be had in 2015. If the team takes us bowling brilliant. But the fun is going to roll either way. Be a part of it make some road trips camp out before home games and bring friends.

The team has their work cut out for them as our league is trending upward. I have work to do too - recruit fans brainstorm tailgate enhancements plan away game flights and hotel destinations. And of course rig the schedule to be at as many games possible.

Keep hope alive expect the best party beast style always.

The season pretty much depends on JUCO QB Smith being the real deal and DMac allowing him to throw the football.

BOTH of those things need to happen for anything better than 4 wins to occur.

It's nice to see the camp out before home games finally catching on. It only took a decade.

I don't necessarily think Mac will have to let him sling the football around the field for us to have success. I think if he is managed properly and is put in favorable down and distances more times than not young Smith will be just fine. The problem with this scenario is our play calling is bat shit crazy. I guess being ranked 113th in the country in total offense is acceptable at North Texas, given our OC is still employed. I have a lot of faith in the offensive personnel and I think there is D1 talent there. The OC has to call better games and/or Mac needs to keep his hands completely off the offense. Spring ball will shine some light for sure.

E88, if you watched the Peach and Cotton bowls, you would realize that a very aggressive defense is exactly what we need this year. TCU just destroyed Ol'Miss with their defense, and Baylor ultimately lost to a very strong defense and special teams. Yes, Baylor put up very impressive numbers in the air, but M. State gave themselves a great chance to win by completely shutting down the Baylor running game, and getting great play from their special teams........plus their receivers finally caught the ball when it counted.....just barely.

SO, if our new DC is anything close to the DC's at M. State and TCU in developing and motivating the defense, we have a great chance to improve this year.

As to our newest QB; I refer you to last year's juco acquisition. On paper, he looked somewhat impressive, but watching him in spring practice....not at all. And yet, the coaching staff kept pushing him to the front of the line when he should have been pushing and elbowing his own way up there himself by his outstanding play. We saw the results in the Texas game; but it took the coaching staff several games to finally wake up.

And that is my main concern.

To me the Camp Out night is horrifically marketed or not marketed to at all. I am the outdoorsy one in our clan, sleeping the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Zion and other national parks under the stars when I can. But once I got some friends and family to do it once they were hooked. I would market this to the students hardcore because they could and would walk across the bridge to set up camp often if they knew it was encouraged. Queue the responses about our horrible AD....

Either way those nights under the stars watching criminal minds and hearing the coyotes howl in the night are memories the niece, nephew and friends are never going to forget - and we will only amplify the effort this fall.

Or, fans could take the initiative themselves, like my group has been doing since the Fouts days

Aggressive defense made all the difference in the 2013-2014 season. Skladany had the plan and the athletes to make it happen and we all saw what it was capable of. I'm hoping our new DC can do the same thing, using aggressive defense to place the offense in favorable field position, create and keep momentum, and better yet, put points on the board.
