So UTEP is a pretty capable team? What could possibly go wrong for us?

Shut down hunter, rebound the ball, maker shots and we win. Hunter gets hot and we cannot control the ball then game over early is my guess.

I also learned from my buddy that we do not run a 3-2 zone but instead run a 3-2 diamond press. Similar look but very different strategy. It's still a zone and we do drop into the official 3-2 defense

I remember back in the day we'd draw 4000 for a conference game and easily have home field advantage. Tonight ... Not so much.

UTEP has two sections filled up pretty good behind their bench and then they are scattered throughout the rest of the arena.

Man UTEPs defensive trap is nasty...

They like to double team on the wings, especially if we pick up our dribble.

Wow have not watched a game in a while. I like the D, but what is with the offense? Looks like YMCA ball, they look totally out of control like they might slip or lose the handle at all times and sooooooo many turnovers. Do they practice offense? LOL it is actually stressful to watch.

      I'll be there. How is everyone feeling as we enter conference play? Overall I'm feeling good. We are 2nd in NET in the conference. The two best publicly available models, KenPom and Bart Torvik, have us as the 2nd best team in conference and finishing that way. Our defense has been really good; it's actually better than last season. The biggest improvement is in the defensive rebounding. We are pulling down 74.8% of defensive boards compared to 68% last year. Of course the team isn't without concerns. Although we start the same lineup every game, we haven't found a consistent closing one. There isn't a 'go to' scorer. The shot creation and/or shooting has been lacking in long stretches. So far our adjusted offensive efficiency is the lowest it's been since the 2019 season, but I don't think (hope) it will necessarily stay that way. I'd be disappointed if we don't finish at least top 4 in conference. The conference, as others have noted in many threads, just isn't as good as last season. Last season there were 4 other teams in the top 100 of KenPom and 7 in the top 150. This season there are 2 other teams in the top 100 and 5 in the top 150. Last year in conference we played 3 Q1 games and 5 Q2 games; this year we're projected to play 1 Q1 game and 3 Q2 games. A top 4 finish in conference means that we would need to win 3 games in Ft. Worth to go to the big dance. That's always the dream. The NIT as the consolation prize wouldn't be bad either. Could we host a NIT game again? Last year Indiana St., Princeton, and Bradley hosted opening round games. That would be a fun atmosphere.
