Thanks for the info on Epps and the Jackson's. I will update. Also, I think all Mac said was that he expects to have 25 signees and get to 85 scholarships. That could be a combination of HS, JUCO, Xfer/Walkon conversions, which would all use a scholarship spot in this year's class. Correct?

In terms of the mid term signees, and based on last year's numbers, are any of the mid term signees eligible to be pushed back into last season's class from a 25 limit standpoint?

No, he said we were going to sign 25. Our last class filled up with the 19 we signed, 4 walkons who counted towards last years class, and then the 2 late JUCO signees (Matthew Dash and Darren Denucci). He said we're going to sign 25, so I guess we are. If Rice and walkons were going to count towards this class then we'd already be full.

So for now, are you going under the impression that Rice, Epps, and the Jackson twins are not currently on, and will not receive scholarship offers until at least after fall practice begins? At that time, they (plus any other deserving walkons) may receive a scholarship, but at that point would count toward 2016. At the same time, you are expecting that we will sign 25 HS/JUCO/UAB Xfers in the 2015 class?

I'm really not sure. I'm guessing something has changed, but I don't know. Last year we counted walkons who had played less than 2 football seasons for that schools as walkons before being put on scholarship, who were put on scholarship, towards the class. If that were the case we would have to count a host of guys this year like Fluesche, Banogu, Sheldon Wade, Erick Evans, and maybe another guy or two towards this class. But apparently that's not the case, or else our class would basically be full.

Vito reported that Epps and the Jackson twins would walkon. Nothing was ever said about Rice, so I'm not sure.

I am just thinking that in order to get players like Rice and Epps here, you pretty much are saying that you are going to put them on scholarship once they are eligible.

I know they have to sit a year when transferring, and I am pretty sure they can't be on scholarship during that time. Is that the way you understand it regarding scholarship?

In terms of converting walkons and mid term signees, I think you are right, you can push as many as you can back to the last class until you reach 25 for that class and then anyone else would have to count toward the next class.

Let's not forget that we don't know yet who is leaving the program. We may have an additional 3 or 4 spots open up through natural attrition before the January semester begins.

No, that wouldn't affect the signing class. You get 85 total scholarships and 25 scholarships per class. The first number is what would be affected, but that's not the concerning number. That would be the second number (25 spots per class).

Duh. Sorry for the brain fart. Do we know how many players (not including commits) we will have on scholarship before this class signs?

Are we at 60? 61? 62? That would let us know whether we may have a few transfer out.

We were at about 80 or 81, then we had 17 scholarship seniors. If we can sign 25 then I think we'll do so. I think one of our commits may already have been informed that he is a grayshirt candidate. Plus, like you said, there will almost assuredly be 4-5 players transferring out, if not by this upcoming semester, definitely by fall camp when most of the freshmen will be arriving.

By the time the spring game takes place, just about everyone knows what their status is going to be. The ones that know they don't have a chance are gone by the beginning of summer. Spring is the big event for the redshirts and walk-ons.
