Yall know Allen HS runs basically 6 plays? Inside zone, stretch, QB sweep, and 3 ish pass plays with reads on 1 of them if they a lot of zone coverage. How simple... One thing I wish we did more was run a Jail and Tunnel Screen.

I know a high school OC that operates like UNT. We have no identity on offense and there is nothing we are great at. Since we cannot impose our will on a team, we have to scheme and use different sets and personel to win games.

Trying to win games with play calling week to week requires a qb who knows the system inside out and keep up with the tweeks week to week. We are adjusting our system based on who we play. We are reacting instead of imposing our will. We rarely line up and say stop us if you can.

Having no identity will make us average at everything and we will attract average talent. We also cannot work on one area and perfect it.

We use TEs sometimes. But not enough to go smashmouth the whole game and give them the reps needed to be complete TEs. Same with the spread. we have to work on a little bit of everything and we perfect nothing.

Agree. We ran a completely different offense when DW started.

Think back to the Cowboys of the 90s. They ran about 8 plays and dared you to stop them. No one could.

And unfortunately with DW, we could not use all the personnel and sets we use. A QB can know all the plays in practice and film study, but you still need to know what to do when a defense comes with a certain look. Once mcnulty got the job, I saw him changing plays, moving the rb, and getting the rb to pick up blitzes. DW didn't know enough.

Assuming that Canales is staying as the OC, and going on the assumption that Mac stays healthy and doesn't have to quit as our HC, there is zero chance that Greer or Dajon will be on this roster for next season. No chance, especially for Dajon, who is so far into Mac's doghouse, you would find a stack of dogbones before you'd get to him. Greer cannot play in this offense--he should transfer to a school like Nicholls State where they could use his ability to get a better QB than they had.

McNulty will start, no doubt. Maybe the Smith kid from JC will be his primary backup, but there is absolutely no way that Sr. QB McNulty gets replaced by an unproven Juco QB--Mac and Chico won't let the happen ever again. Should it happen? From what I've seen the answer is pretty obvious, but they like bus drivers and Mini-Mac is a classic bus driver. The Derek Thompson comparisons are about to get pounded into our heads ad nauseum...

On the bright side, the last time I felt this way about a busdriver at QB that was a senior, we went 9-4 and he was MVP of the HoD Bowl, while I predicted a 3-9 record with him, so you have that to go on...

Yet an unproven Juco QB beat out McNulty last spring.

Everyone knows the limitations of McNulty. If Smith is the best quarterback he'll be the starter ... but if it's close like it was between Greer and McNulty last spring, then I expect McNulty to be named starter.

I didn't think it was close between Greer and McNulty. I thought the best three out there by the end of spring were McNulty, Williams, and Means. Someone other than the one who assessed last years spring QB competition needs to assess this spring's group.

Maybe we could contract with Skip Holtz and/or his QB coach to come do the assessments. Their "one-and-done" QB selection seemed to work out pretty good for them.
