MGB: Breaking news -- player decommits from UNT

Every team is limited to signing 25 recruits every season. SMU can only get the 25 guys they want so it's not like they'll be poaching that many more of our recruits. There has always been an overlap between the two schools. If SMU grabs two or three of our guys then there is nothing to stop us from getting some of theirs in return.

Has Morris specifically said that he's going to honor June's commits? The class June left behind is pretty weak, and Morris's first commit may be better than any of June's. If he were to choose not to honor all of June's commitments, I have no doubt he would have a significantly better class.

People, people... Relax.

If you rearrange the letters in Jordan Murray, you get a couple of things.

One: "A Major Dry Run". This guy was just a test recruit. Nothing to worry about. We didn't really want him anyway.

Two: "Mr. January Rod". Does this mean with absolute certainty that if he'd enrolled early at UNT, he would have violently sexually assaulted a campus female shortly after new years? Well, I can't say that for sure. But I also can't NOT say that for sure.

So, best of luck to the practice recruit/post-holiday rapist. Take your implied sex crimes elsewhere, young man.

I don't see any Coppell player coming here anytime soon as long as their current staff is in place. This is the same staff that was there when Jacob Logan passed away, Unt was recruiting Jacob and came in a week after he passed and asked to talk to him. That is completely inexcusable. Next, their HC now in Dripping Springs, received a tweet wishing them good luck in the playoffs. They got beat the previous week by Desoto. If memory serves Canales was the one who sent it.

This my friends is what we are working with in recruiting outside of Tommy Perry.

A joke. Absolutely a joke.

Oh My God!

If true, and I have no reason NOT to believe you because you could t have made this up, it explains the recruiting.

Rick,

I was student teaching at the time at Coppell High and was in the DC and OCs classes. They knew how big of a unt fan I was so they told me all about it. I could only say how sorry I was and how there was no excuse for that. As for Twitter I'm sure you can go through Canales history and find the tweet, he and Mcbride even had a little back and forth.

If all that happened, I agree it is a joke. But Murray just committed a couple of weeks ago, I assume after the incidents you're describing? And if there were hard feelings about things, it didn't stop the coach now in Dripping Springs from saying positive things about it.

“@_therealjmurray: Verbally committed!!! #GMG http://t.co/Xg8PMNpAZG”congrats... Proud of you. Go dominate!

Would have been strange for him to say something negative about it.

Sure . . . but he didn't have to say anything at all, or could have just done a "retweet." But he posts up a big UNT logo along with the tweet...that just doesn't sound like someone who's harboring a big "I won't let UNT recruit any of my players" kind of grudge, as the poster seems to suggest.

If I'm not mistaken, the kid decommitted as soon as SMU offered him. He already had other offers that he could have chosen, so he was never limited solely to UNT. So the more logical explanation as to why he decommitted is not that his former or current coach was harboring a major grudge, but that SMU offered him.

I never took the mistakes as the reason he decommitted, nor do I care that he decommitted. I'm just shocked they happened in the first place. If those types of mistakes are going on then others may be as well, including misevaluations of talent. That we can believe for sure.

I wish nothing but the best for any athlete that wears a Mean Green uniform in any sport. With that said, talent at many important positions have been misevaluated horribly. When there is no drop off at virtually any position from 1st to 3rd string that is a serious, serious problem. It tells me we are knee deep in mediocre talent (at best) across the board. There are some obvious bright spots that can go unsaid bc everyone knows who they are, but aside from that handful of talent it looks bleak. This is on the coaching staff 100%. If a team can not recruit they will. Not. Be. Successful, specifically long term.

Oh and in the mean time NIU just won their 3rd MAC championship in 5 years. 11-2 with a I'm sure reasonable shot at 12-2. Mind you that they lost their HEISMAN trophy candidate and still hung 51 in their conference championship tonight. Our administration is gawd awful.

In the Coppell paper a couple of weeks ago was an article on a senior lineman, from Coppell, committing to NT.

Calm down people and don't listen to wild hyperbole about no one from Coppell coming to NT.

I do not believe this is the reason he decommitted or flipped. I was merely putting information I had out there for the few on this board who donate enough $ to the program to make some noise and ask some hard questions about said topic. To me that is completely unacceptable. I agree this type of offense isn't one that would cause any coach to say "UNT can't recruit my kids." However, I do believe it is one that will cause those coaches to "urge" their kids to look at ALL of their options. Again, I know we are all human and screw up but both of these offenses needed nothing more than a check of the local newspapers to know what was going on.

In response to the McBride tweet. He is happy for a former player who has the chance at a free education and gets to continue playing football. I am glad this kid at least gave us a shot, and I look forward to getting a few Coppell players to join our team in the future. Their kids work hard and know how to play. They are very well coached.
