Barring a last-minute reversal in the decision-making process, it's unclear what shutting down football would mean for UAB's athletic future. Another person with direct knowledge of Conference USA matters told USA TODAY Sports that the league's commissioner, Britton Banowsky, did not have enough support among school presidents to keep UAB in the league without football.

To hell with the Alabama BoTs. UAB had even Ben building a private donor base to transition into a booster-funded model like the Criminal 5 mostly operate off of, but even that was not enough.

Let's get some FB transfers. I feel bad for their fans, players, coaches and students ! Sounds like U of Alabama didn't help UAB any, that sucks, but not unexpected. The P5s want to suck up everything for themselves. I hope their new system falls apart soon, which I believe it will and need another D-I make over.

My son is UAB grad and football program was killed by Alabama BOR. It's death began a few years ago when UAB had funding lined up for new campus stadium and BOR nixed it.
