Florida: Sources tell us that Marshall head coach Doc Holliday is very much a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Florida. Holliday has served as head coach at Marshall for the past five seasons. From 2005-2007 he was on Urban Meyers staff at Florida serving as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Holliday went on to join the staff at West Virginia where he served two years as associate head coach before being named head coach at Marshall following the 2009 season. Holliday won 10 games at Marshall last season and currently has his team 10-0.

And this is one of the perils of being a G5 program on the rise when it comes to coaching staffs. You can't blame the coaches who are looking to cash in. But, just once, I would like to see a coach turn down the money because he is happy where he is at.

The rich get richer and the poor get the picture.

Mario Cristobal turned down Pitt after coaching FIU to a bowl win, raising a program up from the ashes. He was rewarded for that loyalty to FIU and turning down a hefty raise by getting fired two years later.

But, just once, I would like to see a coach turn down the money because he is happy where he is at.

And then he turns it down... has a bad season or two... the honeymoon ends and he ultimately loses his job... and then has to start over.

Strike while the iron's hot, get paid. It's the name of the game, unfortunately.

If Marshall wants to keep him, they should offer him whatever they can for as long as they can swing it. In the end, it probably still won't matter, as there are but a few jobs in the country that most would find impossible to turn down... and Florida is one of them.

EDIT: untjim1995 made this point while I was typing it out. To your point, however, Gary Patterson has been pretty loyal to TCU and it has paid off!

Mac has a National Championship ring from Florida with Urban Meyer (I bet he'd tell you about it too  ); shouldn't that get him on the list?
