5 quick thoughts on the game:

1. At the start of the 1st quarter I had pizza ready and was excited for the game to start.

2. By the 2nd quarter I started to get indigestion and was feeling a little gassy.

3. By the 3rd quarter I was changing channels between the game and Survivor Man.

4. By the 4th quarter I was watching Survivor Man gather honey while getting stung by bees.

5. By the end of the game I was thinking it would be more fun/less painful to endure bee stings than to watch that game.

the main point should be that Mac 's recruiting has been beyond horrible, it is now showing its ugly head and will not get better for years

After watching the TCU-Kansas game yesterday, you have to wonder if the new Kansas coach was responsible for a lot of the UNT success last year .

Not buying it Brett. Expectations are a great thing, they are the blood of a thriving program. Without them, what are we doing? If the fans don't have a sense of direction or hope then what do the players have to believe in? La Tech has the West locked up after coming off a 4-8 season. How did they do this, they went out and found a competent QB, that's how. One competent QB with very limited experience before this season made their team a CUSA contender. To put a foot on this fan bases head while they are drowning to limit our expectations for future seasons is what Brett is doing in this write up and what Mac tried to do going into the season. Without expectations a coaching staffs job is forever safe. This should never be done by anyone. Owning up to the lack if recruiting and lack of talent evaluation is the ONLY thing I want to hear coming out of Macs mouth. I want to hear ownership, nothing else. Give me accountability within the program and I will shut up and wait til next season. If garbage "we know what we're doing" comments are spewed out then it tells me that changes are not even in the thought process and results are going to continue to be the same. Accept blame, admit fault, make changes and move on and prepare for the 2015 season. Anything else said is BS and I don't want to hear it.

Apparently you don't recall the example set by RV on a recent podcast when asked about the failure of the basketball program.

He blamed 19 and 20 year olds.

When the AD is setting that president, what do you expect?

Again I think 5-7 with the significant leadership in the trenches that we lost would be a bummer but understandable. We need to get to 5-7 though. I will be there cheering like heck to do my part.

      A plea to our "football-only" fans

      Culturally speaking, UNT and Denton just don’t care about the teams here. If people do care, they get made fun of or looked at as if they have 3 heads. But if someone loathes our teams and is a student, professor, administrator, or citizen of Denton, they get all kinds of attention and praise from the others. It’s a town that loves being anti-establishment and going against the grain. And sports are most definitely at the top of the establishment definition to these people.

      A plea to our "football-only" fans

      I'm not trying to scold anyone here, but what's it gonna take for more people to come out and support our basketball teams? And other sports - softball and women's soccer are always solid, and volleyball just made a promising coaching hire. Our basketball teams are a combined 23-9, which is the best in The American. They're also a combined 17-1 at The Super Pit. But no one is showing up for games. I don't want this to turn into a bitch fest about our marketing. It is probably deserved, but the people on this board likely follow our athletics department on some other social media or email list. Every Monday on Twitter I see a post about what teams are playing at home this week. I know some aren't a big fan of basketball, do you dislike it more than you like the Mean Green? Many are rightfully getting turned off by NIL and the transfer portal. I don't blame you. But the coaching staff for the men are putting together its' school record eighth straight winning season. With Burton, the women won't be far behind. In football, I get it adds up for a family of four - tickets, parking, concessions. But the other five spectator sports offer free parking and normally a hella great ticket deal. Season tickets for basketball start at $99 (like $6.50/home game). If you like soccer, softball, and/or volleyball, an Olympic pass will get you a GA ticket for every home game for $75 (less than $2/ticket!). Again, not trying to call out the board, just want to raise awareness for our other sports, especially if you are feeling sour about football. Come out to The Pit at least one time the remainder of the season! The men and women deserve it. Next women's home game is this Wednesday, 1/15 at 6:30pm against defending conference champ Rice. The men play at home a week after that on the 22nd against Temple - last year's conference runner-up. Or, if you live in the Central Texas or Houston area, look for upcoming games at UTSA next Saturday, 1/18 and at Rice Tuesday, 2/11. GMG!
