I was able to learn a lot about our student fee in my last post, so I'm hoping to learn some more about my school in this one. Thank you to everyone who replied concerning the student fee, I really appreciate it.

I notice a lot of back and forth regarding RV. I want to know what you would do if you had the deciding vote on the BOR, specifically regarding RV. Would you keep him and why? Fire him because he's done what he can do here and it's time to get the person who will take us to the next level? Fire him because you think he isn't very good and is paid too much? Extend him and give him a raise because he's provided so much to the athletic department at North Texas? Or give him an ultimatum that it's time to start doing more and it starts with hiring new blood, much like a head coach who fires a coordinator to gain some breathing room?

Let's refrain from personal attacks. It would be great to see what Mean Green Nation thinks. I know I learn a lot from reading each person's unique perspective, especially when it's thought out and fact-based.

We can keep him and run a high school level AD or try for something better.

Be careful what you wish for, though. Every possibility that this university hires someone worse:

He requested no personal attacks. Where does invocation of the son of the Almighty fit within these parameters?

It was more a request for Him to take me home so I don't have to endure anymore of this.

RV as AD?

I guess I don't blame you, but a little drastic, don't you think?

home and home with notre dame?

RV is probs too busy sitting in his office watching Hulu on a borrowed log-in to make this happen. It just makes too much sense. Meanwhile, Georgia State has passed us by.

Is that how you do it?

At the very least look at other options. I am on the side that thinks he has ultimately done all that he can. Under RV, we are losers in most sports. We have to at least look at all of our options. I am not on the BOR so it's not my job to rake through the country and dig up our next guy. I would be looking though, and looking consistently. I would look in the marketing industry and find a marketing executive with a sports background and try to lure him in. I think it would be in our best interest to maybe go in another direction at this point. He was given a recent raise and extension so the powers that be (that accept subpar everything) think otherwise. GMG

Results.

Heard of that?

This is my fear. I had hoped for a time that [turns sarcasm on] since RV is so great [off], he would get and take a job offer at a better funded school. That hasn't happened, though. In the back of my mind, I always wondered if the next guy the BOR puts in place would make us wish for him back.

However, I'd rather try and fail than never try at all.

I think RV has accomplished some swell things here in Denton, but he's done what he's capable of doing; it's time for a visionary to get a chance to take us to the next level. The longer he keeps his current position, the more we stagnate

Just one caveat for everyone to consider. There was a remark on one of these many threads about the AD keeping the fans at arm's length. My other alma mater brought in an AD from Stanford. The guy has really turned the corner on the entire athletic department. Everybody's winning. Big. Lots and lots of post season appearances, lots and lots of post season wins, even a few national championships.

Groovy, right? Yeah, except the culture now is seven unrestricted figures or GTFO. You think the AD keeps the fans at arm's length now, just wait until someone comes along who turns athletics into a wild success across the board. The commoner fan will be lucky to hitchhike to the remains of the demolished Fouts Field parking lot.

Agree, disagree, like, dislike, have personal fondness for, loathe, whatever floats your boat and propels you spinners. This is one of the most accessible athletic departments from top to bottom donor that exists in the nation.

I look forward to the day this happens to UNT.

Me too. I don't need access to any of them. I don't want to talk to any of them, ever. I don't care to meet any of them or act like I like them. I care about the university as a whole being looked at positively at a regional to national perspective and the best platform for that is winning athletic programs.

You and I seem to be the only two. I also like the size, the accessibility, the price, the experience. I mean, there could always be more cheesecake, and they totally chinsed us last week by substituting key lime pie because Florida, but otherwise, it's all super groovy, man.

Yeah, right, yet. Put me on the BOR and I would squabble for what was in the best interest of this university. Bank on that.

Do it, CBL. Are you scared?
