To Deep Green who served on a fire base in Vietnam.

To Texas Stranger and to so many others.

Thank you to those of you who served defending our freedoms so we may live the life we have today and to love, work and play and support our families and support the Mean Green.

Thank you!

Rick

I do not post often but would like to jump on this topic. Ditto to what Rick said, you guys are the reason why we get to live our lives in the very freedom we all take for granted. May God bless you for your courage and sacrifice.

To my knowledge, fifteen Memorial Stadiums exist in the USA, but nearly all honor state and/or school dead. Only the LA Memorial Coliseum is a National Memorial.

They opened it up today for folks to walk around. It was all decked out in American flags and everything. Really beautiful I have to say.

(Figured I'd try and make a football connection given the forum)

No problem Rick. It was actually commissioned in 1921 as a WWI Memorial, that is the re-dedication plaque. There doesn't appear to be one for when the Coliseum was actually first constructed - my guess is it was just assumed that is what the memorial was to. It used to have Armistice and Memorial Day events every year, but somewhere along the line that stopped. The current Manager is trying to re-start that tradition. I've talked to him quite a bit given I'm so involved with the WWI Centennial stuff right now.
