I think we will beat FIU at home, but I don't see us winning either of these two games on the road. UTEP is just a better team than we are right now and they are playing at home, which we have shown that we cannot even compete on the road for 4 quarters. UTSA and us are equal, but they will also be at home. PLus, you cannot forget the recruiting factor that both coachers at UTEP and UTSA want to take advantage of by getting wins over us, especially UTSA.

Coming into the season I thought we had a decent chance against these teams.

After seeing that we wont have any semblance of a modern passing attack I am a bit skeptical.

I don't know man. If I have to go kiss DT's feet, admit that Todd Dodge didn't get a fair shake, beg for Dickey's forgiveness (while wearing a black suit), and sit back and be thankful for the hard work these guys put in doing a thankless job playing football and schoolin and being men of character and good brothers who tell their sisters super cool insider information that no one else could possibly understand? I will.

Dammit I will.

I want another bowl game in my 2014 life*

*Willing to take a Jan 2015 one, too. In case anyone is asking.

... are we not battling them for recruits? Just sayin.. these games being on the road do worry me but, i have a feeling this team is finally playing to their potential... and playing for there bowl lives! Those are two very powerful variables to put into the equation..

That's my point--we do battle them for recruits. They want to take advantage of home games with us to nnot only win, but to do it in front of recruits from Texas that we are all recruiting.

As we discovered last year, this team thrives when people count the team out. When the backs are against the wall.

Say what you want about the opponents they've beat, but they've *throttled* the teams in each of their three wins. They were really rolling vs Rice for half the game. I think there's a lot of talent that is just now starting to click. Call me a homer, sure. I like what I saw.

Agreed! When we play sound d and limit turnovers on sp. Teams and offense we are a solid team!

Still, even if we win out, we would have beaten no one with a winning record, with the possible exception of UTEP. Personally, losses to La. Tech and So.Miss. showed me we are far from a solid team.

USM, sure, maybe even UAB... But why LA Tech? They're whipping everyone. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Marshall in the title game.

I will say that the D held Johnson in check. They made him uncomfortable and he never found any kind of rhythm. Remember, Johnson ran for well over 200 yards vs Marshal. Also remember FAU went stride for stride with Marshal until the 4th quarter. The D played well against a potentially dangerous offense.

We really need these games for recruiting as well. If you look back at this staff's recruiting history here, most of our highly-recruited commitments have come during our 9 win season last year and before we started losing this year. Whenever we've been losing, our recruiting has suffered. The truth is, the staff is not one that sets recruiting on fire, and struggles when they don't have winning proof as a pitch. Some recruiters can recruit well even if there team is losing on the field.

We need a bowl season, not just for the rest of the 2015 class, but also for the 2016 class with how many kids commit now before their senior season. If we're pitching a 4-8 season all spring and summer while they're committing, we may have a tough time with those kids with other offers.

Because we were favored at home against La. Tech, and they beat us as soundly as any team has in the 53 seasons I have followed the Eagles.

Sure, but that was VERY early in the year when LA Tech was still winless and coming off a horrible year. We just finished pounding (what turned out to be a horrid) SMU. Expectations were way off. If you haven't seen what LA Tech has done this year, check out their schedule. Hindsight being 20/20, the loss to them, as alarming as it was at the time, is not a surprise anymore.

And just to be sure, you were here for the Tulsa game in 2005 right?

Yes continue to point at earlier in the season.. if you really know football... youd know and understand that teams grow throughout the season.. we are different team then we were 3weeks ago. I saw a d-line that has grown and becomw a solid unit defense showing out a little, o-line is getting better.. sitiational play calling still eehh. That 4&<1 on the goal line... cmon coach c. Ur at home on homecoming winning! and defense is playing well.. show trust in ur team give them a boost by doing so, especially when your olines begging to go for it.. but anyways the team will show out again in a big way in ep!

The story of this season is how we mis-evaluated the QB position.

I think that SSP gave us a pretty strong hint when she said that not one of the QB candidates was really moving the ball in the last scrimmage. I would like to see someone separating themselves from the pack by the end of next spring's practice. At this point, my only hope is that DW has a great off season.

I will say this..

If the guys we have redshirting this year on the defensive side of the ball paired with some of the defensive transfers and JUCOS we have coming in show any pop in their pads then I don't care who the QB is. Tauaalo, T. Johnson and Brandon Gardner are going to be studs and God help us it needs to start next season. The DB brothers coming in next year should help out significantly as well. The playing time that guys like Sir Wallace, Scott, and Sed Ellis are getting will be key moving into spring ball. These are the guys that are going to make or break our 2015 team. We could have the next Joe Montana as our QB and Mac will still ask Joe Jr to drive the bus and he'll expect to win with his defense. So if our defensive players that have been quietly watching or have been getting valuable pt show up next year then expect to have a solid team. If not then Macs seat is officially hot as far as I'm concerned.

To me what is extremely important and totally on the coaching staff is having the ability to rid this team of the losing mentality and bathe in the winners mindset. They have to believe they are winners before they win anything. From my little time following North Texas this seems like a legitimate issue that trickles down into the fans, DFW, faculty, BOR, 1 Coach Mac post-game press, media, and the list goes on. The phrase "why not North Texas?" seems to be said as an almost preordained failure and not as a realistic expectation. Make that quote significant and the mindset must start at the top, BOR.
