Only beat the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas by 1 at home?

It's ok, RV found a good soccer coach, nothing to see here.

RV didn't hire Hedlund.

A win is not a win when it is one point over a div 2 team picked 7th in their conference by the coaches.

Certainly not an encouraging outcome, but more troubling is the lack of production by any of the newcomers. 35 minutes and 5 points scored by this year's incoming class, doesn't give you much confidence that there is any one close to as good as the prematurely departed Peterson and Hyder. I was really surprised how little he played his new recruits.

It is also concerning that there are only 12 players on the roster, 3 under the limit, particularly with the number of players lost last year because of injuries.

I am not saying that it is not concerning. I just much rather win a game than lose a game. Beating duke by 1 or beating Lamar university by 1. Both are wins and I would be happy with both. Obviously one will help our RPI more.

But this was an exhibition game, so it is not really a win, loss, or anything other than a bad omen. Things are going to get much harder than D2 Directional Arkansas.

Not saying that this is a good omen, but teams lose these types of exhibitions, it is not that uncommon. Louisville (if memory serves) lost one a few years ago and still made a tourney appearance. Again, not saying that we should be happy with the result, but we probably should take a wait and see approach.

Blowing them away is OK, but you would rather have to compete. We are going to have to compete next Friday. Regardless of who you are playing against, to have possessions of value means something. This did us a whole lot more good than beating the dog out of someone, a whole lot more good.

Right, because we all know without a doubt how difficult it is to evaluate your your team when they put someone away like they should?

Yeah, threw me for a loop. I've heard bad coach speak, but this was a cavernous reach by Peterson.

You know...it's funny...I did not see many of the folks posting here at the game. Don't think it was on TV, so odd that so much "knowledge" can be found just from seeing a score.

Ladies looked tentative all night, and found it hard to work against the press and a zone defense for the entire game. The Mean Green struggled at times to break through the press...early season jitters and new teammates. That team will not come in 7th in their conference. It is senior and junior heavy and sports lots of JUCO players. The coach is young and pretty much played a platoon system with the 16 players he had on the bench. At times I thought I was watching a shift change at a hockey game. But, the guy made the most of what he has. Our ladies would have won by 10-12 if they had just hit their shots at the basket. They just missed and missed easky shots from the start. Don't expect that to continue for the season. Peterson has lots of "teaching moments" he can use in practice leading up to next Friday's game against Houston. That will be a much tougher contest for the Mean Green, but I would expect Houston to play the Mean Green more head's up one on one and not press for the entire game. That should give the Mean Green more room to work and to display their athleticism more. But, Houston will present a much greater challenge for the ladies than did the Muleriders. The game certainly will help all the new players and returning players find their comfort zones in knowing what to expect in various situations. As Coach Pete said after the game....this type of game will teach them more and prepare them better than a 20 point blowout win. Let's hope so as there is work left to do before conference.

But, a couple of things...no one cried when Peterson "chatted" with them, the players seemed to play as a team more than last year, and the Mean Green has a small (5'1") guard that looks to be able to run the floor and pass with a bit of zip on the ball.

Hitting our shots and dumping in free throws would help too! LOL!

      Why Support this Program?….Seriously!?

      Respectfully Darrell Dickey was one Big West season away from being fired. If the Sun Belt hadn’t fallen into his lap he’d have been gone at the end of 2001. And yes Dickey had tough out of conference games, but he also lost to both Troy and FAU during the 26 game conference win streak (they just weren’t in our conference yet). Here is a snippet from one of my prior posts on Dickey. I doubt anyone would say ULM had facilities advantages on us, even in 2001. ************ From October 13, 2001 to September 10, 2005, Dickey’s teams won 26 consecutive conference games. The streak was bookended by wins over the MUTS. The week before the streak started we lost to 2-9 conference mate ULM. The game that ended the streak was a loss to 4-7 Troy. The combined record for the 26 teams run through was 99-203. If you exclude the 26 losses from NT, their combined record was 99-177. Of those 26 wins, just three came against bowl-eligible teams. Additionally, we lost to future conference mates Troy at the end of ‘01 and FAU at the start of ‘04 which would’ve shrunken the streak to 13 games if they had been in our conference at the time. *************

      An Old Fan's Advice To You Young Fans

      I definitely understand we lack financial prosperity like other colleges not far from us. However, I also have to look at the amount of resources and $$$ we will continue to “lose” by allowing the program to continue faltering. SL got us one step above. EM and company is endangering this program to take a step back down figuratively. We had a great opportunity this season to present “our brand” to a national audience, and I’m afraid we showed it.
