I have hated benford since the D2 loss and have been disgusted with UNT hoops since the UTA loss.

However I have decided to give Benford a fresh start. I like Wesley and Combs on this team. So starting Nov. 1 I have renewed hope. Who is with me?

Benford's coaching has improved from the first year, but I still am going to have to see some results before I buy in again. The roster does give out a little hope, but based on the first two years that may not mean much. His transfers thus far with the exception of Voss have not been close to measuring up to his evaluations. The freshmen; Wesley, Combs and White-Pittman do provide more interest.

I am cautiously optimistic but don't have season tickets for the first time in decades as they went mostly unused last year.

I am always ready for UNT basketball. Trilli, Jones, Benford.... It's all good. I really enjoy basketball! Benford is showing he can recruit and he has improved from his first season. If he continues to improve (20 win season) I will definitely be on board for next season. If we only win 8-14 games this season then changes need to be made. However I do not want to lose players in a coach turnover. The 2014 and so far the 2015 recruits are looking real exciting!

Count me in. Hope springs eternal. Benford despite setbacks has continued to recruit well and I am really hopeful it will pay off this season. I will say this though, Benford needs a good year.

I'm really excited to see our team this year, and I think that with an influx of some promising young players and a hungry Jordan Williams, we could finally see the right amalgam of skills. That's neither an endorsement of Benford nor a prediction for a sweet sixteen appearance (or some other stupidly unrealistic expectation). That's just the hope of a Mean Green fan who is eager to watch his school play while, technically, anything is still possible.

Someone once asked what it would take for Benford to be forgiven for the disaster he oversaw/created after he arrived. I believe I said something to the effect that he will probably never be forgiven and I don't see any reason to change that position.

I would like to be excited about the upcoming season, but I just can't get pumped up about it. Benford is still here. Our front court is likely to be overrun by almost every D1 team we play. The point guard spot (apparently) depends on the NCAA approving a waiver that says 'North Texas' on it.

So, not with you on giving Benford a fresh start. He can't be fired soon enough for me. I'll be at the games, but I'm not optimistic at all and certainly not forgiving Benford.

Its hard for me to post that I am willing to give this thing a new shot, especially after the last two years. I think he has a schedule to make some hay at home in OOC, but I just don't see us beating anyone who has a chance at making the NCAA Tournament. As I posted the other day, I see us going 6-2 at home in OOC play, 0-4 on the road in OOC play. CUSA has some good teams at the top, but its still a one-bid league, probably La Tech's or UTEPs to earn. I see us winning 7 or 8 games in conference play (including the conference tourney). That gets you to a record of 14-17, which I think is about the best we can expect for.

If we get to 16 wins this year, that means we are guarenteed .500 or better. With this schedule, that's possible. And with this AD wanting to show everyone that Benford wasn't a complete failure, I'd expect RV will be ready to extend Benford out another year or two, which would give him 3 or 4 more years to coach here.

If Benford wins between 5 and 15 games, he'll be back with a make-it-or-break-it 4th year to coach, which would require a winning season to get him an extension.

Under 5 wins would probably mean that Benford gets fired--I think...after watching Vic Trilli and Todd Dodge get 4th years after 3 awful seasons leading up to that 4th year are the examples of why I cannot say it would be a certainty.

Benford ain't going anywhere until after next season.

We don't fire anyone before year 4. It's just too expensive and the administration doesn't really care about athletics that much. Definitely not enough to pay out more than one year of a contract. They have demonstrated this time after time.
