You also have to remember that the P5 conferences swallowed up some of the more traditional mid-major powerhouses. Louisville is in the ACC, TCU is in the Big 12, Utah went to the PAC12, Boise/Cincinnati/Houston/UCF are all teams that have made multiple top 25 appearances in the last decade (or even BCS bowls) but are having down years. BYU was a top 20 team until they lost their QB. Basically there's just no G5 school that's showing they deserve a top 25 ranking right now. Maybe at the end of the year you find Boise State or Colorado State there, but there's not really a single team to latch onto that's proven they're worthy.

If Marshal goes into bowl season at 13-0 not ranked that would be an absolute slap in the face. Regardless of who plays who, it is beyond difficult to run the table and win your conference championship. Marshal will prove or disprove their worthiness in bowl season either way. I hope they get put in the HOD to play a Penn State or Rutgers.

Marshall hasn't played a marquee game and won. Very weak schedule, without ever really being tested we don't know how they stack up. We will see come bowl season but I think they get beat.

They have beat

Miami OH (2-8)

Rhode Island (0-9)

Ohio (4-5)

Akron (4-5)

ODU (3-6)

MT (5-4)

FIU (3-6)

FAU (3-6)

Not exactly a sterling resume.

Could Bama beat Akron or Ohio on different weekends? Probably. It's only when you put them back to back like that that you find out really how much iron sharpens iron.

I guess that's why the MAC is just SEC-lite...who could possibly expect to beat those two juggernauts in back-to-back weekends?
