Have watched this forum for years now. Amazing to see the highs and lows. I'm a new contributor. I have only one thing to say today. Some of you guys are the same guy that sits right behind you at a game that everyone wishes would shut the hell up. Bitch, moan, complain. Repeat. The one thing that amazes me about this sight and ones like it is that self-proclaimed football geniuses are not in short supply. I played high school ball on a state championship team and coached varsity high school football for 11 years. That doesn't make me a football genius, but it does make it possible for me to understand why a team is performing or not. I'll never forget the joy of listening to dads standing behind you at the fence (about 10-15 ft. behind you) calling us dumbass coaches because we wouldn't call this play or another. We literally worked at our jobs 24/7. We rarely saw our families from July to December. The idea that some damn dairy farmer who's kid couldn't run out of sight in three days needed to be fed the football 15 or 20 times a game, knows more about the ins and outs of the team is for lack of a better way to put it, stupidity. Mac knows more about the game than I do by a mile. He's been at it for over 30 years. I'll shut up now and listen to all who oppose me. One more question. What qualifications do you have that allows you to make determinations about play calling and personnel decisions? I want the team to do well too. I'm just not going to sit in the cheap seats and be a self-proclaimed football genius. Now fire away!!!!!!!!

So you have no opinion on how this season has gone? You believe that Mac has put us in the best position to win every game? You believe this is on the players? You believe that we have the best personnel possible on the field?

I don't know bro but our head coach has a career 76-110 record who also got a raise and an extension before this season. Whoa now that is cause for concern.

First off welcome. We look forward to you sharing your insight with us. Based on your experience I would like to know your observations.

Secondly, we are just fans. We follow this program and some of us have for many years. I see nothing wrong with people sharing their opinions when they don't like the direction the program is going. I wish that some would do it is more of a positive way sometimes sure but this is the intranet and you will see some of that on every college team site.

No one with a brain is questioning Mac's knowledge and ability as a coach. There has not been a harder working guy in the head job at North Texas. I do think the fans have a right to voice their opinions when things aren't working. I also believe that if something is not working for whatever reason you make adjustments you try to fix it.

The fans on here are passionate about the Mean Green sometimes to a fault. I will take that over apathy any day. We're trying to get more of our alumni exposed and engaged but we follow up a 9 win season with a 2 win season it's hard. We want to figure out how to right the ship and thus you see some armchairing here.

Our challenge is trying to build some consistency in this program right now. Pretending that every thing is OK is not in our DNA. So we share our opinions knowing full well we aren't experts, just fans. Again welcome to the site and I look forward to hearing your thoughts! GMG

Interesting post.

Personally, I am going to worry a lot more when the best fans, like those I read on this site, quit caring. I learn a lot more from the well informed posters than I do from the coaches show.

So, you are saying your worry is more focused on UNT basketball at the moment...

I don't think his beef is with people posting opinions. It seems to me that it is with people making statements as though they are facts.

I think people are just disappointed in how the season has gone. If you continually loose it seems a change needs to be made. As of yet the only change has been placing a terrible quarterback in the game. It's not hard to see McNulty is awful. He plays in front of thousands of people. Everyone can see he is awful. Dajon may not be much better but he has more time to progress. Putting McNulty in the game is a stubborn move. When our opponents fans comment on how bad our QB play is you know there is a problem. We have other problems though so do no get me wrong. Hopefully we start playing some under guys and getting them experience so next year goes much better :)

Hat tip to A Good Caws on the MeanAndGreen board:

"In 15 years as a head coach....ONLY TWICE has McCarney had teams that finished over .500 in conference play."

Conference games are the ones your putting your best effort towards so this is hard to believe considering all the "Skins On The Wall" we're constantly reminded so much about.

For some reason as the few passionate fans of this program who invest money in donations and tickets, as well as time and effort to talk up the program to our friends, family, and work colleagues, I thought we had a right to voice our displeasure when it seems like the program is being driven off a cliff...guess since I have never coached football or played past 8th grade, I will keep my mouth shut.

The first post reminds me of a guy in the stands that wants everyone to hear his resume. Summation: Mac knows his team and Dads at fences are bad. I kid I kid...

The team will bounce back. We just need to beat UTEP. I don't want to travel all the way out there for a loss and possibly be beaten by a fat mob outside the stadium. Yes, there are fights outside the Sun bowl for those who don't know. Deadspin has a good one on video.

I absolutely LOVE people like you. The "they coach for a living and you don't" argument is comic gold each and every time.

I'm in the law enforcement business. We deal more with "arm chair" experts than a coach ever will. But, by your logic, we should write them all off due to their lack of experience actually doing the job. So let me ask a few questions. You have no opinions whatsoever on things in Ferguson, MO? You believe that any time you or a loved one were pulled over it was totally justified because the officer writes tickets for a living? And I can only assume that you believe that there are ZERO people sitting in prison due to police misconduct...after all "The idea that some damn football coach, who couldn't in three days properly explain the intricacies of due process needed to weigh in on the Rodney King case or O.J., knows more about the ins and outs of policing is for lack of a better way to put it, stupidity".

Right?

I liked the way Cerebus put it here:

That is an insane proposition. I'm not a plumber, but if I hire one and he hooks up my toilet to flush directly into my shower I shouldn't criticize him?

We pay a lot of money for a coach to win football games. We pay for it. Do you under stand now? He is providing a service. I may not know the exact details of how the servicing is done, but I know the results I want.

Up until now I have been very happy with this staff. Last year I though DW would be a better option for us, but the coaches had other ideas and because they were able to still deliver wins I didn't care. This year, making the same mistake looks like it will lead to a 8-9 loss season. Unacceptable.

You posted your message six months too late. North Texas cheerleader applications are in the spring.

Joking aside, welcome to the board.

Unless your name is UNT90, it's highly unlikely I sit behind you, and honestly, I'm usually telling him to shut up. Not because he's yelling too loudly or saying inappropriate things, but mostly because I just find him to be an incredibly terrible person. My internal pain threshold gets put to the test at every game merely by being in the same county as that guy, let alone sitting directly behind him and that adorably insufferable girlfriend of his. She always demands hot chocolate. It's awful.

The one thing that amazes me about this sight and ones like it is that self-proclaimed football geniuses are not in short supply.

As a veteran of four (count 'em! FOUR!) years of intramural seven man flag football that didn't even have goalposts in high school, I humbly submit my plea of guilty as charged.

That doesn't make me a football genius

Correct. See above with intramural flag football.

It's DuMAS.

He's been at it for over 30 years.

Sure, but how much cement has he laid? Has he ever made a bigger grandstand?

What qualifications do you have that allows you to make determinations about play calling and personnel decisions?

None. None whatsoever. Except this. My state provided edumacation at little ole U of NT taught me what results are. Be the biggest football genius on the planet (although you've got some stiff competition for that title down in Westlake), but results, or in this case, the lack therein, are not debatable. Going on the radio and blaming my university for being difficult to recruit to is a classic coaching/corporate middle management technique for blowing smoke and evading responsibility for failure.

I'm just not going to sit in the cheap seats

Me neither, brother. Me neither.
