We haven't done a good job of this.

MacNulty did not lose that game last night. Look how USM's line towered over us. We need to reevaluate how we are identifying the best prospects.

Kudos to USM though they are heading in the right direction to bringing their program back to respectability.

and here we are at the core of the issue.

And I will repeat my earlier question about how is it that we have a head coach who is known as a defensive guru and yet NOT ONE dominate defensive tackle has been brought in. And as I said before, I don't care if he has to recruit one from Tierra Del Fuego High school. And in a related matter one of the dominate DT's playing for USM last night is from Belize.

And in another related matter. How is it that our Offensive guru cannot bring in a QB like the one who beat us last n)ight. Now granted, he wasn't the proto-type QB (6'1" x 195) but he knows how to play and he doesn't get rattled under pressure. Instead our offensive guru spends God knows how much time trying to fit the square peg that is Greer into the round hole of the QB position. To me it brings to mind that part of the classic movie "Citizen Kane" where Kane devoted enormous amounts of time and money to train his girlfriend to be an Opera singer, because that's what she thought she could be. But after a while even she realized that she had no talent and begged him to stop. And yet he made her keep going even though she was never cut out to be a singer.

McCarney as much as said that our program has such a bad reputation that no coach in Texas will give us/them the time of day in our efforts to recruit, Well, when that became apparent he SHOULD have contacted his coaching connections somewhere else and he should have made those calls a long time ago.

Four years is more than enough time for both coaches to come up with something.

Hard to believe but we continue to award scholarships to undersized D linemen. There's not one player in our rotation that would start for Southern Miss. -or LA Tech for that matter.

Dominating doesn't mean up sized. It's someone who is up-sized, quick and strong, and has a surly attitude. Big blobs are not what we need.

We need guys like this.........

I briefly watched the La Tech/UTSA game yesterday. One play impressed me very much. La Tech gave the ball to Dixon and he flew toward the line of scrimmage. Just as he got to the line "wham" he was swatted down by Mabry and went down with no gain. I haven't seen something like that in YEARS at North Texas.

If the same thing had happened against us, it would have taken three or four defenders to bring Dixon down. And probably none of them would have been d-linemen.

If we could just keep a couple ofguys with the size of Cantlay/Abbé on the roster to play NG. I think we have decent size for the 3-tech and it seems like we have some decent prospects on the outside.

Not haveing a NG that requires a double team is putting pressure on the rest of the D.

Yes, NT need defensive players at all positions. I don't understand this preoccupation with size. Orr and Wallace started and they have good size as does Lincoln and the seemingly always injured Watson. USM had a 300 lb nose but no one else on the two deep dl was over 265.

I thought our defensive line gave it all they had, but for a few exceptions just couldn't get the job done. My whine with coach Mac is his complaining about how hard it is to recruit in Big !2 country. Gary Patterson seemed to do a pretty job winning both the WAC and MWC titles before TCU moved up.
