Named after former UNT President V. Lane Rawlins and his wife, Mary Jo, Rawlins Hall will feature what the school called an unusual interior neighborhood design to foster a sense of community. Each neighborhood will feature a lounge and a study.

Other common spaces will include two multipurpose rooms, a shared community kitchen for use by residents, an open concept lobby and recreation space, a library, billiard room and laundry room.

Also planned are two special meeting rooms for organized or casual meetings and events. The facilitys rear entry will include a large porch opening onto the courtyard shared by Honors Hall, Clark Hall and Rawlins Hall.

Rawlins Hall will house 487 students in its 118,332 square feet. The architect for the project is Randall Scott Architects of Dallas, while the contractor is Vaughn Construction of Houston.

The total project budget is $37,100,000. - Robert Francis contributed to this report.

Does that really say, "Rawlins" Hall? Didn't his practices put us in the financial shitter?

No all that started about 20 years before he got here...I even heard reports some of the financial stuff started in the 70 ' s but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

In the Morning News stories about the problem. The problem went back at least 20 years and probably further. That was what complicated computing how much the State wants to be reimbursed.

Much more accurate than anyone would believe...

And we are not the only ones and truthfully are a minor offender compared to at least one Big 12 team

And wasn't a good deal of it directly related to inappropriate compensation of the very librarians who stomped feet and raised torches and pitchforks at the 50% privately funded football stadium?

Yes, the UNT Library system was partially funded by the state, and it should have been funded only with student fees. The UNT library, which is grossly underfunded and showing it, had nothing directly to do with the shortfall. Funding is determined way above the paygrade of librarians or even the dean.

Thanks for your post. One question I had was isn't the concept of a library changing now with technology? I find myself using newspapers and periodicals less and less relying more on google and electronics, tablet etc. I wonder if that isn't playing a role in the funding.

Senator Royce West has made it a point that no other school has ever had to make up more than two years of misappropriations , and why is North Texas being singled out? The State Auditors should also be held to a higher standard of accountability to have missed the obvious for so many years. You can bet other state schools are shaking in their boots with similar skeletons. Note story this week that Gov. Perry disbursed $51 million to UTD from the Economic Development Fund w/o UTD even having made a request for those funds. Politics as usual in Texas---final settlement will be nowhere close to figures DMNS has reported. Remember that DAMNS is a Belo publication as is DRC and both will paint UNT in the worst light possible to please their SMU educated owners.
