It's a little bit tortured, but I laughed a bit.

If we're going to get that stretched, I'll go ahead praise one of the most influential rock bands of all time: The Who (the hell took an honest accounting of the basketball program from 2012-14 and decided we'd be well served to keep Tony Benford on as head coach? I mean, REALLY? We're going to pretend like we're serious about succeeding as an institution of learning OR as an athletics program, when we're not even willing to take honest stock of the real state of affairs of our basketball program? When U-A-freaking-B can afford to eat a few years of contract on a proven winner, we can't bring ourselves to swallow hard, open the checkbook, and save the program from a multi-year rebuilding effort that we'll be in for after this round of recruiting and an almost inevitable termination within the next 6-18 months anyway? ALABAMA BIRMINGHAM can afford to cut loose Mike Davis, but we won't end this catastrophe until the hole we dig for the next coach reaches halfway to China? I mean, if you want to talk about containment of a terminal infection... I'd rather take my chances tongue-washing the corpse of Thomas Eric Duncan than see what happens to UNT basketball for the next half decade or more when Tony Freaking Benford goes through ANOTHER year of churning through replacements for 4 or more scholarship athletes. The last chance we had to pull the ejection seat and survive was back in March/April, but now we're riding Goose while Benford goes full throttle right into the side of the mountain, and we have no one to blame but ourselves for the inevitable wreckage.)

Sure, some people say they've sold out with all the commercials and TV theme songs, but you can't deny their influence. Where would pinball be today without them?

I know they had a pretty large influence on Rick Villa-Soul-For-Real

Woah, Woah, Woah. Booger is THE man.

People think I have a man crush on Scott Hall because I defend him all the time, but my man crush is solidly on Brandon Kennedy. You want to make this defense great? Put a BK clone on it. Hell, you want to turn some of Dodge's terrible defenses into a good unit? Put a BK clone on it.

Amazing how good everyone else gets when you have someone who can take a double (or triple) team and routinely destroy it. All of of sudden other linemen get free runs, linebackers don't even realize there are offensive linemen on the other team, defensive backs get bored because no one has time to throw.

It's just that no one has stooped to trolling that Richard Abbe was a better lineman than Booger. Richard Abbe was a great lineman for us, Booger led us to 7 sacks on a 10 win UT team. Booger was defensive mvp of his conference three times, player of the year twice.

Not enough can or ever will be said about Booger. There is just no way to convey the impact he had on our bowl teams, and the YouTube highlights - though spectacular in their singularity - cannot portray how ridiculous he was from snap to snap, whistle to whistle.

I mean, we had a ton of talent on those teams besides Booger. Part of the reason that our streak was so remarkable, however, was how close a ton of those games were. I don't know if we go bowling more than once or twice without a Booger. I say that with all due respect to the other players: they are some of my favorites to reminisce.

Ah yes, Jones and Buckles. They could hit. Laramie is maybe as good as them.
