Since we have a new president it's hard to tell if he cares, but it's been evident over the years that there is not a lot of caring by some who steer the university. I mean they don't seem to care about what these embarrassments do to the brand.

And I think they have done a poor job overall of building the brand in other ways. They have done some things right, but then stupid stuff like only selling eagle logo merchandise that has the 'North Texas' attached to it. Do you see any other schools where you can't just get the logo to put on stuff without words on it too? I even see that Texas State bobcat on cars all over the place. It doesn't say 'Texas State' on it but I know what it is. I don't want the item to say 'North Texas' cause it doesn't look like what big schools do and it de-emphasizes the eagle which is a more recognizable symbol by itself.

That sounds petty but it exemplifies the sort of buffoonery we've consistently had to endure even during the rare good times. Getting blown out by LT, Indiana and UAB is a clown act. They may as well play that 'yackety sax' song at the games. Comedy football, but I don't find it funny. That's how I feel.

hey, at least we are thousands less than the rest.

It's a ton of research that I am not motivated enough to do, but I am wondering about the attrition in the 2011/12 classes. Was it injury, homesickness, Mac telling guys to "get lost"?

I know you can never dig through some of the PC stuff, but it might be telling if this was about players not buying in, or just other things out of the staff's control.

I'm sure it's nothing more than what other programs have to deal with. Everyone has attrition. UAB had a horrible coach and was told by their Board of Regents last year that no matter what they did they were not worthy of funding and building their own stadium no matter what their most influential alumni and leadership had to say.

So they addressed what they could, and that was to go out and find a coach that didnt judge the past, didnt bag on what the previous guy left him and put together a group of men who want to go kick someone's ass, regardless if they play in a shiny new stadium or an empty crumbling piece of crap.

And some of these programs just may be recruiting better than UNT. Seems as though we redshirted several players last year and the year before, yet we still don't see many of these players on the field. Are they just not good players? If not, then poor recruiting is on McCarney and staff.

Preach. SO much right there. The fact our logo has words in it is comical.

Another great point made in this thread was that the 2011 class is basically worthless to us at this point.

The hire of Mac was an overreaction to the Dodge hire. What Dodge did do was get recruits like Dunbar and Orr. Why because he had swagger when he was hired. Turned out he couldn't coach.

Mac was the opposite of that, no one in Texas cared about the hire. SO his 1st couple of classes struggled. I think it's gotten a little bit better recently as he's shown that the team is (was) turning around because of him. But this year is a result of those 1st two classes.

RV's last 6 hires in the big 3 sports (Football, Men's basketball, Women's basketball) have gone a combined 117-216, good for a .351 winning percentage. There has been one winning season during the tenures of those 6 hires, spanning 15 seasons heading into this school year, and it resulted in the extension for Coach Mccarney.

With that loss now down to 117-217. 100 games under .500

I guess this was the point (after last year's UAB game) Iย really took a look at things from a broad perspective.ย I've been keeping an eye on this since and after what has happenedย here's where we stand with the hires we've made in the last decade in revenue sports:

WBB:

- 25-67, Stephens (2008-2011)

- 15-16,ย Aston (2011-2012)

- 28-61, Peterson (2012-2015)

68-144 total

MBB:

- 12-20, Benford (2012-2013)

- 16-16, Benford (2013-2014)

- 14-17, Benford (2014-2015)

42-53 total

Football:

- 6-37, Dodge (2007-2010)

- 22-27, Mccarney (2011-2014)

- 0-4 Mccarney (2015)

28-68 total

Total combined:

138-265

127 games under .500, and that includes FCS and non D1 victories.

1 winning season out of 18, and that doesn't include this season which we are not mathematically eliminated from a winning season yet.

Agree. This goes to my post in another thread re: Cosh. We KNOW where the problem(s) is. That should be the focus of our efforts. Take out the kingpin and the others go down.

ย But come on, Billy. It's the hiring consultants fault, or Rawlins Fault, or Gretchen's fault.

Its anyone's and everyone's fault except RV. Don't believe me, ask RV or any of the 17 that he has personally manipulated into donating to the RV AD For Life Foundation, and not to THEIR university.ย

it's so North Texas to have 17 people hold the rest of us hostage with an AD who can't hire anyone to win here in a revenue sport and to have a BOR that thinks he deserves extensions....

Sometimes I feel that being a long-time loyal Mean Green fan is like making love to a skunk...

I've about had all of that I can enjoy!

This is pathetic. What AD at a university that gives 2 shits about sports would still have a job after these ridiculous numbers???? RV needs to be fired, Mac should be right behind him, then Benford rounds it up with his pink slip. I will not renew season tickets next year. You'll catch me in the tail fin section next year. That's where this program is anyway, where shit comes out...

No way. It's one season, let's see what happens next year.

Whatย about last season? And this season? Let's not forget the AD who can't schedule, makes false promises, delivers 5 home games (with one being FCS teams who no one wants to see),ย and destroyed the basketball team.ย

I don't believe in jumping to quick decisions but UNT needs accountability.ย

RV needs to go. Let the new AD decide Mac's future here and obviously fix the basketball debacle.ย

this is an old thread. That was posted October of last year.

Pretty clear Got5onit has changed his thinking substantially.

That was my post from 1 year ago. I felt Mac earned 1 more year. Well, his one year is up now. See my post 2 posts up.ย
