  1. Anyone gonna be watching the Copa America?
  2. REGINA — Is it cooler to be a professional football player or an Olympic bobsledder? “They’re two different things,” says Johnny Quinn, a former Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver and a member of the United States’ 2014 Olympic bobsled team. “Walking into Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football, having my first reception on Monday Night Football — what a special moment. And walking in the opening ceremony, representing the United States, wearing the red, white and blue, competing on Olympic ice — what a special and unbelievable moment. “They’re different but both still so special.” Along with playing for the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, the University of North Texas alumnus suited up for the Buffalo Bills and helped the Riders win a West Division title in 2009. read more: http://www.leaderpost.com/entertainment/Quinn+enjoying+sporting+life+after+football/9982732/story.html
  3. As many of you know, one of our great former Mean Green players Johnny Quinn is a participant on the US Bobsledding Team which will compete in the upcoming 2014 Winter Games. I know all of us are proud of Johnny and his accomplishments, including his induction to the UNT Hall of Fame last year. #81 is now moving his game onto a global stage where he will represent both UNT and our entire country. To do their very best, the US team needs our donations to help them get the best equipment and support. For a small donation, Johnny will personally sign an 8x10 bobsled picture for people to display at home or office as an appreciation for supporting an Olympic hopeful. He also has other photos as well - Green Bay, UNT, etc. I have attached 2 links, one to Johnny's website, and one to the interview from CW33. Please check them out and do what you can to help support one of our very best in a worthy cause. http://www.JohnnyQuinnUSA.com/Store http://www.the33tv.c...ful#pl-62805430 Go USA and Go Mean Green! 4. No one is going to believe this but we just got stuck in an elevator. Ask @BOBSLEDR and @Crippsee who were there... pic.twitter.com/Rwg57CBbUU — Johnny Quinn (@JohnnyQuinnUSA) February 10, 2014 Now we're stuck in the elevator! Can @JohnnyQuinnUSA get us out ? pic.twitter.com/sVbyksEXlc — David Cripps (@Crippsee) February 10, 2014 The guy seem to have terrible luck. Seems to be legit as it was picked up by FTW by USA Today.
  5. The US seems to be playing well? http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1506351/landon-donovan-brace-leads-us-gold-cup-final?cc=5901
  6. "We played them [North Texas] last year there and I was real impressed with the facilities they have there. My family was able to come, which was nice because my family doesn't usually get to come to the games. That was special. When they lost their special teams coordinator to Arkansas State we were able to get a dialogue going. "The more I found out about Dan McCarney (head coach) and when you look at it, it's so close to both Angela's parents and my parents. It was a hard deal not to take it. It's a little bit of a (pay) bump too, which is always nice. But it came down to location, my roots in recruiting and being so close to my family.'' Perry was known for his booming voice and enthusiasm during South Alabama practices and games, especially in working with special teams. 'The whole reason I came here was to do something nobody's ever done before; to take something from scratch, to take something from nothing,'' Perry said. "I think especially in special teams we were compared against anybody we played and I don't think there was anybody we lined up with while we were here that we weren't competitive with on special teams. That's a really great feeling to have when you can go out on an ACC field or a SEC field and know you can hold your own and maybe be a little dangerous. Look at the kickers we were able to produce in Jordan Means and Michel Chapuseaux. Then you look at some of the running backs we had that has success.'' Jags' head coach Joey Jones said he is happy for Perry and pleased with the work he produced while with the South Alabama program. "Tommy brought a lot to our football program. He's a very knowledgeable special teams guy and a great staff guy. I wish him the best at North Texas. I know he's going home - he'll be an hour away from his home and I know that means a lot to him and we wish him the best.'' Perry and his wife Angela are awaiting the birth of their second child. The baby's due date is Monday and he has been working from home in recent days because of the closeness of the due date. Perry said Jones and new boss McCarney "have both been great'' in understanding his situation and allowing him the freedom to be at home right now.
