  2. Friday can’t come quickly enough for the Longhorns. Fresh off of a disappointing first-round loss at the hands of Baylor in the Big 12 Championship, the Longhorns are eager for redemption heading into the NCAA Tournament. Monday’s televised draw saw North Texas selected as the Longhorns’ home opponent. The matchup marks Texas’ first postseason appearance since 2014. “Big 12 (play) didn’t go as planned,” freshman forward Haley Berg said. “But we’ve looked over it, we’ve talked as a team and with our coaches, we know what happened and we know what we need to do to get back to our fighting mentality.” The two programs met earlier this year in a preseason contest. Texas dominated possession, outshooting the Mean Green 21-7, but it took a last-minute goal by sophomore Cyera Hintzen to put the team away, and the Longhorns edged by 1-0 on the road. 4. Beat the heat like a soccer player Here’s advice from player Rachel Holden of the University of North Texas: Stay hydrated. This isn’t about just drinking water right before practice, but drinking water throughout the day as well as limiting unhealthy drinks like soda. Grab a Gatorade or chocolate milk after practice to replenish minerals, carbohydrates and proteins. Don’t practice in the hottest part of the day. Instead, practice in the morning or evening when it’s not as sunny. Don’t complain about the heat. It’s easier if you deal with it head-on. 5. NORMAN — Sept. 26, 2008. That was the last time Oklahoma took a beating like the one it endured Sunday against North Texas. The Mean Green demolished the Sooners 5-0 at John Crain Field. It was the third loss in the last four games for the OU. In all three defeats, the Sooners have been shutout. “I think we were beat by a better team today,” OU coach Matt Potter said. “All the credit goes to North Texas. They came in with a game plan and executed a game plan. When they got their opportunities they put the ball in the back of the net. Great day for them, obviously not a good day for us.” The Mean Green (6-2-0) were the aggressive team from the start. They had two shots on goals in the first five minutes. That assertiveness paid off when Amber Haggerty put North Texas on the board with 36 minutes left in the first half. On a free kick attempt, Haggerty took a pass from Kelsey Hodges and blasted a shot past the Sooners’ (3-5-0) Stade Kassidie for the first goal of the afternoon. “These things are going to happen,” Potter said. “We can’t accept them because they are not our standards. At the end of the day all we can do is go back to work and congratulate North Texas on a job well done.” Read more: http://normantranscript.com/sports/x86524427/North-Texas-smashes-Sooners-on-the-pitch
