WAXAHACHIE — A Texas High School Football Hall of Fame coach with three state championship rings will soon help lead the offensive unit of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University football team. The university announced the hiring of Sam Harrell as the new SAGU offensive coordinator late Tuesday evening. Harrell formerly led the Ennis Lions from 1994-2009, during which the program won three 4A state championships. After medical issues sidelined the coach for several years, he has since returned to the coaching scene to serve as the quarterbacks’ coach and offensive coordinator at Fort Worth Christian High School. The Cardinals won a TAPPS 4A state championship in 2015. According to the SAGU announcement, Harrell went 153-51 with the Lions, which included state championships in 2000, 01 and 04, as well as state semifinal appearances in 1999 and 2003. The Lions also appeared in the playoffs for 11 consecutive years and had nine straight seasons of 10 wins or more. “Coach Harrell has an incredible resume and is an unbelievable football coach,” stated SAGU Head Coach Frank Tristan in the SAGU announcement. “But more impressive than his resume is his character and integrity as a man of God. Our program and institution will be better because Sam Harrell is part of it.” read more: http://www.waxahachietx.com/news/20170523/sam-harrell-tabbed-to-lead-offense-of-southwestern-assemblies-of-god-football-program
