So I've been seeing some things thrown around too much that I would like us (as a "big" school) to stay away from. This whole idea of a short and/or cheap contract is tiring. First of all, no coach is going to sign a contract for anything less than 4/5 years, and no AD is going to sign them for less than that. This isn't free agency where you sign a one year veteran minimum to see if a guy still has it. One year? Three years? No one would offer that, and why would they? Makes no sense for either party for many reasons (no serious offers will garner no serious candidates). We want to be a big boy in football and we are going to act like it. Also, the whole hiring an inexpensive (read: inexperienced) coach will not fly either. McCarney was inexpensive as it was, and he had plenty of P5 experience. The average 2015 compensation: $1.96 million (if my internets did me right). Heck, even the bottom half averaged $829,231. Canales or no Canales (it's not going to be Canales), the next HC will garner 4/5 year contract, and above $800K. Because we are big boys and we act like big boys. (if I say it enough it will happen)
