OK, folks, I have been asked to help organize another fundraising event for a UNT Alum and Athlete...and former Cheer Team member. Kellie Delka is part of the U.S. Women's National Skeleton Team, and it is 100% up to her to raise the funds she needs for equipment and travel. And, as you might can realize, equipment and travel is pretty darn expensive. For example...that SMALL SKELETON SLED COSTS FROM $8,000 TO $10,000 and must be replaced every 3-4 years, runners go for $600, speed suits for $800 and on and on for equipment. Travel is yet another large expense. Flying off to train and compete in Europe can add up pretty quickly. Kellie is not a newcomer to the sport and very much wants to work to earn one of the coveted US Olympic Team slots for Korea or a future Winter Olympic Games. She was 4th in the 2014 National Push Championships, 4th at the US Nationals in 2015, 2nd at the 2015 National Push Championships, 6th at the 2016 US Nationals and 3rd Overall on the 2017 European Cup Tour. So, she continues to improve in her performance and rankings. So, here is what we are thinking after talking with Kellie, her parents and another UNT Alum who got me into this in the first place....we are looking at a July Corn Hole tournament...perhaps at one of the local Denton watering holes...on a Saturday afternoon...maybe with food to purchase and a few items to purchase or bid on to help raise a few dollars. Maybe have the Corn Hole Tournament a 60/40 proceeds split...60% to Kellie with lessor amounts for 1st, 2nd and maybe third place finishers...t-shirts as a part of registration or to sell on site... Just looking for a bit of a show of interest at this point. Much to do before any solid announcements can be made, but would there be any interest in proceeding with a GoMeanGreen.com Corn Hole tournament fund-raiser for Kelli? By the way...that's Kellie on the right in the attached photo. Maybe some of you may remember her from Track or Cheer at UNT. https://www.theodysseyonline.com/kellie-delka-her-road-to-the-2018-olympic-games Mark's Notebook.url
