On-and-off drizzle Sunday afternoon didn’t cool down Michael Cotton. Cotton, a 19-year-old sophomore at North Texas, started with a dismal first eight holes, but he finished his last 10 a fiery 8-under par. His 7-under 29 on the back nine propelled him to a victory in the Texas State Amateur Golf Championship. Cotton finished at 9-under 204, three ahead of Preston Stanley — who like Cotton hails from Katy — and four in front of Lewisville’s Grant Bennett. Eight holes into Sunday’s final round, Cotton appeared to be falling out of contention.
