Cheshire Phoenix have completed the signing of North Texas University guard Jordan Williams ahead of the new BBL season. The 23-year-old Dallas native , who stands at 6ft 6ins, joins Cheshire straight out of the Mean Green basketball program in NCAA Division One's C-USA conference where he averaged 15 points and five rebounds per game in his senior year and was one of the standout performers for the team. This will be Williams, who finished his college career as the ninth highest scoring player in North Texas history with 1,501 career points, first professional season and one that Nix head coach John Lavery is confident will be a successful one. Lavery said: “We are happy to have secured a player of Jordan's quality for the coming season. He is young and fresh out of college who has the hunger and desire to be successful in this league read more: http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/sport/basketball/cheshire-phoenix-sign-north-texas-9993903

While we continue to work through the build-up to a new football season, a couple of items of note on the basketball front … – I’ve been meaning to get to this for a couple of days, but two of UNT’s former players have landed spots on pro teams. Jordan Williams, one of the more productive players in program history, appears to be headed to Europe to play with Cheshire Phoenix. Colin Voss is also going overseas and will play for Castellano Cerignola in Italy. Williams ranks ninth in school history with 1,501 points and was a third-team All-Conference USA selection as a senior. Voss was a solid player during two seasons with the Mean Green. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/08/hoops-notes-former-unt-players-in-pro-ball-et-cetera.html/

Even casual C-USA fans may be asking themselves "Jordan-who?" Quietly, Jordan Williams has put together one of the more impressive careers in Mean Green basketball history. Entering his senior year, Williams is already UNT's 21st ever 1,000 point scorer with 1,045 career points on about a 41% shooting average. He has averaged double-digit points every single year and is a model of consistency in terms of scoring. What's the strongest argument against having Williams on our top 10 impact players list? Nay-sayers would point to the fact that Williams has only ever been a part of mediocre North Texas teams. Last year's Mean Green squad went 16-16 and the best UNT team Williams has ever been on record-wise was his freshmen year's team that went 18-14. That means you can add UNT's J-Will to the loooong list of senior studs in C-USA with an absolute thirst for the NCAA Tourney. If the Mean Green have any dance of filling a major sleeper role and contending for the C-USA crown, they will likely need Williams to have a monster season as a senior leader. UNT begins a three-game weekend series this afternoon with a game against Columbia. Here is a video I shot with Brandan Walton and Jordan Williams, who shared their thoughts on the trip and today’s game against the Lions. UNT junior guard Jordan Williams was named the Conference USA Preseason Players to Watch list today. Williams averaged 14.2 points a game last season, when the Mean Green struggled to a 12-20 finish. He was one of the Mean Green’s most consistent players throughout the year. There were a total of 16 players named to the list. We all love to talk about how deep our team is, how much we have returning, etc, but let's take a moment to reflect on our super trio of Jordan Williams, Tony Mitchell, and Chris Jones. The great basketball teams usually have 3 players that are looked at as "All Star" types who can carry a team in different phases of the game. Look at NBA Championship trios like Ginobili-Parker-Duncan, Bosh-Wade-James, Jordan-Pippen-Rodman, and even on the college level like 02-03 Syracuse with Anthony-McNamara-Warrick, 01-02 Maryland with Dixon-Baxter-Wilcox, and of course 05-07 Florida Gators with Noah-Brewer-Horford. Although it's a bummer that Patton is out and TJ Taylor is out for the whole season but the close games were and are going to be won with the ball in the hands of our trio. It's going to be fun to see how our other players on our stacked team such as Coleman, Alzee, and Franklin match up against another, possibly even more, stacked team but as long as they play solid basketball this year our big 3 should lead us to many, many wins. Can't wait for tonight, really looking forward to the game. Not expecting a win, but not expecting a loss either. We couldn't have asked for much better to open up the year. GMG!
