So we recently discussed who were the best, and I think a lot of us will probably check out stuff with those guys because they're so damned good (Oldman, Harris, Spacey, etc etc). But this might be fun too...which actors can pop up in something and you're like, "oh, yeah, I have to see it"?
For me I guess it depends on the genre. For comedy, I'll check out anything with Sandler, Ferrell, Rogen, and their respective buddies, though lots of those have been disappointing.
But the stuff that really catches my eye, especially when finding pleasant surprises, are indie and straight-to-DVD action and drama flicks. Christian Slater, Val Kilmer, Van Damme, and Schwartzenegger are all holdovers from my youth that stuck with me, and luckily even their relatively unknown flicks have usually ended up being pretty good.
Steven Dorff, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Jason Statham and Taye Diggs are other guys that I usually gravitate towards, as well as Gerard Butler and Clive Owen.
Basically these are guys that aren't necessarily the "acting greats" but you can usually have good luck watching for a fun, entertaining flick. And they're not all necessarily bad actors, some of them are quite good, but not usually to the level of the other ones we've discussed.
Who are your go-to "not great" actors?
