SAN MARCOS — When Everett Withers was introduced Thursday as the new head football coach at Texas State, his first official appearance on campus was more like a pep rally than press conference. There were more cheerleaders, players, assistants from the former regime and well-heeled boosters than members of the media in attendance, with some of the fans even taking the microphone to query Withers about his plans to jump-start the Bobcats’ program after a dismal 3-9 season. “I’ve got a plan, and it’s infallible,” Withers said. “I’m not a patient man, and I won’t ask for patience from (our fans). Fan stands for ‘fanatic.’ Fanatics want something right now. I get it. I understand it. I’m ready to go to work.” Dennis Franchione retired on Dec. 22. Withers comes to San Marcos after compiling a 19-7 record and leading James Madison to back-to-back NCAA Division I FCS playoff appearances and a conference championship. James Madison also set a school record with a 14-game regular-season winning streak after the Dukes won the final seven games of the 2014 season and began 2015 with a 7-0 record. read more: http://www.statesman.com/news/sports/college-football/withers-calls-texas-state-gold-mine-is-ready-to-go/npzYD/

I like this hire. Their fans seem excited about it. http://bobcatfans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=26437

Both names have come up as possibilities. Withers has more college football experience and head coaching experience. Jinks brings Texas ties and high school experience to the table. Which way do you go if you are North Texas?

He's worked time as position coach, coordinator and head coach across Division I-AA (now FCS), Division I-A (now FBS) and the NFL. He's done everything from coaching special teams at Austin Peay in the early 1990s to coordinating defenses at a couple of national powers (Louisville, Ohio State) to being a head coach (North Carolina, now James Madison). Withers went 7-6 as the Tar Heels' head coach in 2011, when he had a handful of future NFL players contributing on his roster – including running back Gio Bernard, linebacker Zach Brown and defensive lineman Quinton Coples. Withers took the James Madison head job before last season. In his first year, he took the Dukes to the FCS playoffs for the first time since the 2011 season. This year, his team is ranked in the division's top 10 nationally. On Sunday night, USA TODAY's Dan Wolken tweeted this: read more: http://www.testudotimes.com/maryland-terrapins-football/2015/11/2/9656718/everett-withers-maryland-coaching-search-candidates-football
