I have a sneaking suspicion that Littrell and company would not have parted ways with DaMarcus had there not been another QB they had in their back pocket. My guess would be this might be a preferred walk-on transfer who could even be enrolled at UNT now, making him eligible to participate in Spring training. Or perhaps, this could be another graduate transfer type situation that shows up in the Fall. I think it would be a player who has experience in the spread offense. I just don't see them letting DaMarcus go without knowing they had other options. I think this will become known soon.

Or at least all official channels would seem to indicate such:

Periscope from this mornings practice. https://www.periscope.tv/w/aKXhHzYwNjcyMnw2NTY0MzQwOJXnZJ2xbcuTfux0ANP-fB14ZQNg0q4Kl0cGN8_odJRK One thing I find a bit interesting - AM has been listed as a starter and Greer the presumed #2. In this video Greer and and DaMarcus Smith are throwing together and are the only ones shown. Could we deduce that is because the 2's are working together and DM and JG are considered 2A-2B?

It's still early and the workouts have been voluntary but one thing is abundantly clear. Smith has a rocket arm. Whether or not this will translate to playing time remains to be seen. Will he step up and be the leader we need? Will he learn the playbook and more importantly will he pass Chico's dreaded QB exams, which are described as a mixture of quantum physics and football...? However it plays out, my sources indicate that It will be extremely fun for the fans to watch this guy throw the pill.

As the 2015 football season approaches, we will look at each position on the Mean Green’s roster. Today we begin with the quarterback spot. A look at the UNT’s pecking order: 1. Andrew McNulty 2. DaMarcus Smith 3. Josh Greer 4. Connor Means Outlook for the 2015 season: UNT struggled at the quarterback position last season, running through three starters while ranking near the bottom of Conference USA in most passing statistics. UNT finished 12th out of 13 teams in passing efficiency (112.4) and 11th in passing offense (172.8). Greer contributed to that total while starting the first three games of the season before UNT turned to Williams for three games. UNT then gave McNulty a chance and stuck with him for the final six games of the season. McNulty and Greer both return, but Williams left the program. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/07/unt-quarterback-breakdown-mcnulty-in-position-to-hang-on-to-job.html/

Former Seneca High School and Western Kentucky University quarterback Damarcus Smith, who spent this season at Butler Community College in Kansas, has committed to North Texas, his coach said. Smith will sign this week and enroll next month with two years of eligibility remaining. Butler coach Troy Morrell said Indiana also had been recruiting Smith, along with some FCS teams. Smith had a strong season at Butler (7-3), passing for 2,509 yards and 28 touchdowns with six interceptions in nine games. He completing 60 percent of his throws. In a 53-36 victory over Dodge City in October, Smith threw for 526 yards and five TDs. "He threw the ball really well and was consistent for us all year long and made a lot of big plays," Morrell said. "He was a good leader for us as well." Morrell said Smith has "tremendous arm strength" at a level similar to former Butler quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who went on to play at LSU and now for the Tennessee Titans. read more: http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/recruiting/2014/12/14/former-wku-seneca-quarterback-damarcus-smith-commits-north-texas-junior-college/20414965/ Read more:

DaMarcus Smith, a former Butler County (Kansas) Community College standout and arguably the most important signee in UNT’s 2015 recruiting class, will not participate in spring practice. Smith was listed among the players who will enroll over the summer on UNT’s official signing day list. Smith was scheduled to transfer to UNT at the semester break and participate in spring practice when he committed to UNT in December. A school spokesman confirmed on Friday afternoon that those plans have changed. Smith will still have a chance to compete for the starting job in the fall, but will miss what would have been valuable practice time in the spring. He is enrolled in classes at UNT. UNT will begin spring practice March 10 with its spring game to follow on April 18. Spring practice is considered vital for junior college transfers. The players who arrive at the midterm break are able to adjust to playing at a higher level, not to mention adapt to a new system and new coaches, before the opening of fall practice. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/02/damarcus-smith-will-not-participate-in-spring-practice.html/

There has been some movement on the UNT recruiting front in the last couple of hours. The big news is that Butler (Kan.) Community College quarterback DaMarcus Smith visited over the weekend. I talked to him for just a second before our connection cut off. I am supposed to talk to him later today. Before we get to that, there are a couple of other items of interest, including former UNT commit Cade Erwin is visiting Princeton this weekend. A couple of the guys UNT has parted ways with over the last couple of weeks have been for reasons other than the fact they just didn’t want to play for the Mean Green. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/12/saturday-morning-recruiting-notes.html/
