I know that many of us questioned your abilities and you have proven us wrong. Your development of this 2013 Mean Green D-Line is a remarkable story. A guy like Richard Abbe, little known out of West Texas who is now being considered an NFL prospect is just one example. You took potential and turned it into results this season. Mac clearly knew what he was doing when he gave you this job. Thanks for everything you have done to revive our defensive line! Your hard work has paid off! GMG!

Congratulations to North Texas. A loyal reader and Mean Green fan emailed me last week to ask about the prospects of North Texas, and sure enough the Mean Green took down Rice 28-16 on Thursday behind defensive and special teams touchowns to move to 6-3, 4-1 in Conference USA. That means they can compete for the league title, but also that they're on their way to their first bowl game since their run of four straight New Orleans Bowls from 2001-04. The Mean Green were called for defensive holding after apparently stopping the Owls on fourth-and-goal from the 6. The next set of downs ended with a fourth-down sack by Lairamie Lee to help preserve a 28-16 victory. This game shows in a nutshell the failures in the Bailiff era. Here we are, a senior laden team in a diminished conference, playing a team which was on the bottom a few short years ago. But with an experienced disciplined coach, they made us look inept. With our supposedly improved recruiting, we were clobbered physically. We continued to run play after play into the strength of their defense and ignored downfield passing until it was too late. "I only caught the second half so I missed the first half where apparently Rice played much better. Still, I came away even more impressed with UNT than I already was after we beat them at HC. A very solid Defense, very quick with some good athletes and on Offense a decent RB and a QB that can give you problems. Our win over them was no walkover a mediocre opponent. They're good. Rice will give us trouble but they weren't able to really dent UNT's Defense. And ours is better. My feeling is that we just have to score 21 or more points to beat Rice and put pressure on their Offense to score, we can't just expect to get by on Defense all night long."
