MURFREESBORO - A five-peat could be in hand for MTSU by the end of this weekend. The Blue Raiders are quickly closing in on their fifth consecutive (and final) Vic Bubas Cup all-sports trophy in the Sun Belt Conference. With the softball regular season wrapped up, the top of the current Bubas Cup standings look like this: 1. MTSU – 112.5 points 2. North Texas – 106.5 3. Western Kentucky – 94 4. South Alabama – 90 When the baseball regular season ends in two weeks, MTSU will pick up a few more points – two points by the current baseball standings – while North Texas does not play baseball. So by that projection, MTSU would be ahead by about eight points with only the men’s and women’s track & field outdoor championships this weekend to decide the Bubas Cup winner.
