  1. Hahnville High School running back Sergio Medina told his coaches last week that he has verbally committed to attend college and play football at North Texas. "Sergio is an excellent football player and had options from a college standpoint, but North Texas has recruited him very hard since the summer months," Lambert said. "He is a very instinctive football player, rarely out of position, and North Texas plans on playing him at strong safety. In many ways, his high school and then the transition to college on defense is similar to that of Jerico Nelson when he came out of Destrehan High School." 2. The Rider offense has some flash and dash, led by Domanic Thrasher at running back and a group of receivers that seem to take turns making big plays. But as the season has progressed with three starting quarterbacks and different game plans depending on the quarterback and the opponent, there has been one constant. That's the offensive line. Sometimes they need to build a 10-play drive from the single wing. Last week, they just gave Chase London the time he needed to complete passes down the field. The headline act up front is left tackle Harrison Sorge, who committed to North Texas before his senior season. Not only does Sorge (6-4, 290) not look for the spotlight, but his blocking keeps the man lining up across from him from making the highlight reel with any hits. He made his name a year ago with a solid blocking job against Denton Ryan's Mario Edwards. But that didn't change big No. 76 for the black and gold. "Moving someone back, it's a lot of fun," Sorge said. "You drive them back and take control of them. That's a good feeling. They have no control, and they're trying to get off, and you knock them down." Read more:http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2012/nov/21/high-school-football-sorge-paves-way-for-riders/
  3. I spent some time today working the phones and have come up with at least a working list of a few of the players coming in on official visits this weekend and picked up some information on a few of the guys in play for UNT at this point. One new name out there is Sergio Medina, a linebacker/running back from Hannahville in Louisiana. Hannahville head coach Lou Valdin confirmed that Medina is coming to UNT this weekend. He’s 5-10, 215, and is being recruited by several Sun Belt-level schools. He was the Offensive MVP of District 8-5A last season. “He’s very fast and very strong,” Valdin said. “He runs a 4.5 and is 215 pounds.” Valdin believes Medina could play either running back or linebacker in college, but UNT seems to be interested in him as a linebacker. Trinity Valley offensive lineman Shawn McKinney posted on his Twitter account that he is coming on a visit to UNT this weekend and is thinking about committing. I later confirmed that McKinney will visit with Trinity Valley head coach Brad Smiley. Read blog: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2012/12/thursday-afternoon-recruiting-notes.html/
