Tulsa has had the reputation of being a high scoring offense in the past but the loss of some key talent has seen the scoring fall way off in 2013. The team has also struggled defensively and when both are combined we have a team that hasn't won a lot. The Golden Hurricane did rise to the occasion with a 24-14 decision at Louisiana Tech which ended a four game slide against what was a Bowl hopeful Bulldogs squad. TU mustered 368 yards to give them a slight edge over the home team but both teams struggled to hold on to the ball with four turnovers each. Trey Watts led a grinding ground game with 189 yards on 40 carries with three touchdowns with Ja'Terian Douglas adding 58 yards. The Golden Hurricane needed the run to come through because the passing of Dane Evans (12-20/120) was off the mark with a trio of picks. Tulsa has had problems the entire year but North Texas on the road is far from reliable. I don't care for this match up at all with this being away from home for the Mean Green so take this pick for what it's worth... UNT vs. UTSA Roadrunners Pick-Odds-Prediction - 11/23/13
Harry posted a topic in Mean Green Football
North Texas has enjoyed a productive first season in the CUSA at 5-1 which ties them for the top spot in the West division. The offense has produced some average looking numbers yet average over 30 points because their defense is above average and wins the battle of field position. Both sides of the ball were at their best in a 41-7 rout of Texas El Paso with a 471-184 advantage in real estate. While the defense put the clamps on the Miners rushing attack the Mean Green exploded with 317 yards and almost a 7 1/2 yard average. Brandin Byrd went off for 202 yards on 18 totes with a pair of scores including an 82 yard jaunt. Derek Thompson was quiet through the air with a 10-24 effort producing 154 yards and a TD but that was plenty with the defense turning in a sterling performance and their dominance on the ground. I see two teams playing well but North Texas is solid at home and are very tough on the defensive side of the football. I think defense is the winner here...
